I’ve been using the L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Midnight Serum for about six weeks now, both morning and night. I am very happy with how it’s performed. For me the clearest benefit has been increased moisturisation, but I also feel that my skin looks rather smoother than before I started using this. It took about two weeks for me to really start seeing a difference – a little slower than promised on the package, but in my view not very long at all. The product is easy to apply – a couple of drops was plenty; it spreads well and absorbs well and has a light citrus smell. I did have a little trouble with the dropper not “pulling up” occasionally. It’s hard to know whether that was me or a slightly dodgy dropper, but it wasn’t a big issue in either case. The serum fit into my existing routine easily. The bottle isn’t finished yet – my guess is that it’ll last a little over two months. That’s pretty good value. Overall I found this an effective product, which showed results in a relatively short time, and which was easy to use. I liked it, and will probably re-purchase it.

I received a small sample size of the Aveeno body wash. I found it quite creamy (although not too thick; it was easy to get it out of the bottle). I didn’t notice much aroma, which makes it useful on days when you’re planning to wear perfume. It lathered up well, and a small amount went quite a long way. It didn’t dry my skin out unduly, but did a good job of cleaning my skin. It left me feeling fresh and clean. It also paired well with the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion. I’m sure it would work perfectly well with pretty much any body moisturiser, but it feels very nice paired with the Lotion. This is a good daily basic: it does the job, it won’t clash with anything, and it’s good value.

Normally I use Micellar Water occasionally, but for the last three months this has been my sole cleansing product morning and night. And I’ve been surprised how effective it is. With regular use, my skin looks clearer and feels softer. The Sukin Micellar Cleansing Water doesn’t make my skin feel dry or taut; it’s not moisturising, but it certainly doesn’t reduce moisture. I used it with a couple of different moisturisers, one Sukin and one not; it seemed equally effective with both. I was pleased with the overall impact on my skin.

This is a really good, reliable, basic body moisturiser. It moisturises your body effectively. It has no aroma (that I can detect), which makes it a great everyday moisturiser if you’re using other strongly scented products. It absorbs easily and you don’t need huge amounts for it to work well. I’m not sure that there’s a lot more to say about this: it does the job it’s supposed to do, it does it well, and at a good price. It’s not overly luxurious but it’s a great everyday product.

This is a very simple product to use – spray it onto your roots, and it provides immediate color to hide regrowth. It’s simple to use, and doesn’t make a mess. This comes in a limited range of colors, so it won’t match all hair colors perfectly. However, even though I found the medium brown I chose a little dark for my hair color, it was a lot less noticeable than the grey roots that were starting to show. This is a really useful short term “save”. It’s only designed to last for one wash – and that’s pretty much all it lasts for – but it made me look and feel better when something important came up and I couldn’t get to the hairdresser.

I used both the pink and purple variants on my blonde daughter for a crazy hair day at school. It was a little messier to apply than I’d hoped, but pretty easy to do. The colors were very vivid and we both thought they looked great. The vivid color really had an impact. I tried them on my darker hair, and the effect was still strong. It only took a couple of washes before the color was no longer obvious.

I tried the 50ml size of this – great for travelling, which was a bonus. It’s a fresh, fruity kind of smell, though I found that the aroma dissipated fairly quickly, so it didn’t clash with anything else I was using. I recently suffered an injury which meant that for a couple of months I was more dependent on dry shampoo than usual. It’s not perfect as a hair cleanser – eventually residue builds up – but it significantly extended the time between washes. I found this very useful. It refreshed my hair, reduced the oiliness, and was incredibly easy to use.

This is a simple and effective dry shampoo. I found the aroma almost unnoticeable (they do have varieties with stronger scents), which makes this particularly flexible as it won’t clash with any other product. It’s incredibly easy to use – just spray on your hair from a short distance. I like to use a small amount and work it through my hair with my hands. It sucks up the oiliness very quickly, and provides a short term cleanse and refresh. Residue builds up after only two or three uses, and I feel that I need a really good scalp scrub. But this is SO useful when you’re travelling, or sick. It’s not an everyday product for me, but is the sort of essential I keep in the cupboard for the moments when I need it.

This is a great serum that I use when my hair has been particularly unmanageable or frizzy. You apply it to wet hair (the instructions say “soaking wet”, but I usually towel dry it enough that I’m not actually dripping) by dispensing the appropriate amount into your hands and working them through your hair. This works best if you blow dry your hair, but I often let it air dry and still get a good result. Essentially, it makes my hair smoother and straighter and generally more manageable. It works best when used with Frizz Ease Shampoo and Conditioner, but even alone it’s effective. I like it – it’s easy to use, gives me the results I want, and works quickly.

This hand cream promises long lasting moisturisation. I didn’t feel that it really achieved that, although it’s certainly more effective than many. The greatest strength of this, for me, is that it’s non-greasy. Some hand creams make me feel as if I can’t touch anything for ten minutes after applying them; this Aveeno cream absorbed fast and didn’t feel greasy at all. It is effective, too, if not quite lasting all day. I found an application in the morning and at night was plenty. The aroma is so subtle that I didn’t really notice it, meaning that it wasn’t a distraction during the day. I’ve been washing my hands more regularly of late (hasn’t everyone) and this has been very effective at preventing my hands from feeling too dry. I recommend this; the combination of effectiveness and non-greasy makes it a particularly good hand cream.
