The day before she escaped to paradise for her tropical island wedding, Bh’s Laina was anything but breezy. She was in crisis. With so little time and so much to do, she’d completely neglected her bikini body! So we sent her to Salon Empyrean for an emergency buff and polish …
Call me biased, but I think beach brides have it tougher than most when it comes to beauty. All that bright, water-reflected light makes natural and immaculate make-up tricky but essential, hair needs to look delicately windswept even when it’s gusty and the beachy honeymoon means that almost every inch of her body is going to be on show. The day before I flew off for my wedding, I’d covered every detail but the last.
I needed a treatment that would give my body some serious exfoliation and ensure that my skin glowed from head to toe on my big day. I’d heard that Salon Empyrean, a boutique salon hidden in a heritage-listed terrace in Woolloomooloo, used the divine Ilcsi Organic Skincare and Pevonia ranges (two of my favourites), so I jumped at the chance for a last-minute treatment.
I had the Hot Cinnamon Rub & Wrap ($85), which began with a deep, grainy exfoliating massage that went from my shoulders to my feet. It felt divinely warming and stimulating – I really felt physically uplifted as the cinnamon tingled! But, best of all, I could feel the scrub getting right down into my pores, sloughing dry skin cells and flakes. Phew.
I was then wrapped up in a silver foil blanket before steamy hot towels were layered over me to allow the detoxifying and moisturising ingredients of the scrub formula to penetrate. Whilst my body was all warm, cosy and cocooned, the therapist gave me a lovely head massage until the wrap was ready to be removed.
When it was rinsed away, my skin felt silky smooth and I couldn’t stop running my hand over my shoulders – I seriously hadn’t felt so buffed and supple in years. The spicy aroma even lingered on my skin for hours afterwards.
Most importantly, my skin was ultra soft and smooth in my strapless wedding dress and for days into my Fiji honeymoon. Crisis averted.
