I took a trip to the salon recently to indulge in a relaxing, yet much-needed massage. The masseuse’s magical hands set to work on my tired, heavy legs, leaving them feeling lighter and nourished from the oil.
My masseuse worked her way up towards my head, but it was at my neck that the niceties stopped and the torture began!
Now we’re all prone to holding stress in our shoulders and neck, but who knew letting go could be so painful? As she kneaded out the knots, my whole body tightened and the pain brought me close to tears.
“Keep breathing”, I told myself at the realization I’d stopped momentarily. While I focused all my efforts of breathing (it’s surprising how something as fundamental as breathing can be so hard), my masseuse worked to find a tension-releasing trigger in my neck.
At the end of the hour I felt a little sore but a lot less stressed, making it all worthwhile. I did myself a favour though: I asked the masseuse for some at-home exercise tips that’ll lessen the likelihood of stockpiling so much stress in future. I highly recommend you make the most of your massage by doing the same.
