Here’s the low-down on the best in-salon facial hair removal treatments to try:
WAXING
While waxing is obviously a brilliant go-to for keeping your brows in perfect shape, it’s also a great option for removing unwanted facial hair on your face. Waxing removes the hair from the root, but be warned – as the skin on your face can tend to be quite thin and delicate, it can be a little painful at first! But it’ll be worth it when your upper lip, chin and sideburns are fuzz-free for weeks on end!
How long will the results last?
You can expect to be hair-free for up to six weeks, but when waxed long-term, you can expect the hair to grow back finer and sparser.
THREADING
This old-school method involves the beauty therapist using a twisted piece of thread to grab an area of hair and pulling each strand out from the root in one swift movement. Sounds painful, right? Well to be honest it is, and as it doesn’t grab as much hair at one time as wax can, it can take a bit longer to remove hair from one area. Having said that, some people find the process quote relaxing – each to their own, I guess! Threading can be done on all areas of the face, including the eyebrows.
How long will the results last?
Four to six weeks.
LASER HAIR REMOVAL
A popular choice for women (and men!) for zapping away body hair for long-term results, laser hair removal is becoming a more common method for facial hair removal as well. It involves having a laser point a beam of light at the hair follicle to damage it and stunt re-growth. To really reap the benefits, you will be required to have a number of sessions, but many laser clinics offer affordable package deals for multiple treatments.
How long do the results last?
Depending on your hair and skin colour, the results are near permanent, so hair will grow back much slower and finer, or not grow back at all.
DERMAPLANING OR EPI-BLADING
This treatment removes the dead skin cells on the face and the layer of hair that covers the skin, as both the dead skin and hair can block pores with dirt and oil. The treatment uses a blade (similar to a razor blade) to gently exfoliate your face and remove that ‘peach fuzz’ for a smoother and more radiant complexion. Essentially, this treatment involves shaving your face, but don’t worry – your hair won’t grow back thicker or darker, and you can even do it yourself at home! Still not convinced? How long do the results last?
Dermaplaning is recommended every three to four weeks, but your beauty therapist will work out a schedule with you.

Just tried threading for the first time today. I happened to be at the shops and saw a threading place so popped in as my eyebrows were in desperate need of a proper shape and tidy. It is painful but I think better than waxing. Its not as traumatic and doesnt seem to be pulling at the delicate skin under the eyebrows. This is something I can see myself doing again, probably once a year or so just to make sure they maintain the shape. It cost me $15 and took less than 10 minutes.
