If we had to pick the top hair trend for 2015, it would have to be soft, 1970s-style waves. Seen on the runway at Michael Kors, Anna Sui and Alice + Olivia, it was an instant hit with hair stylists, becoming one of the hottest looks to be unveiled at last month’s Hair Expo.
Aveda’s Global Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders, replicated the slightly dishevelled and oh-so romantic style at the Stella McCartney Resort 2015 presentation. Now, she says, it’s catching on with the masses.
“What we’re seeing on the streets right now is a softer, almost DIY style that looks as if the girls cut their fringes themselves, so it isn’t polished perfection,” she says.
“Hair isn’t stagnant; it moves, it lives with us, it goes through things. This softer style makes each cut completely original and unique to the wearer.”
And the best part? According to Antoinette, “the softness, shine, and ‘classic’ foundation” of the style makes it wearable for all women!
To get this “do it-yourself hair” look, Antoinette recommends playing with your hair’s texture, mixing wavy styles with straight ends. For a shiny, frizz-free and model-worthy finish, use a barrier against humidity such as Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight Styling Crème, which helps fend off fly-aways in the most humid environments.
