It’s almost been three months since the Australian government announced only ‘essential’ businesses could continue operating. The restrictions saw us kiss goodbye our beloved nail and spray tan technicians (figuratively, of course), leaving most of us to brush up on our waxing and diy root touch-up skills at home.
But it’s starting to look like our unkempt eyebrows and nails might be getting some professional TLC real soon.

However, until the whole of Australia has been given the green light, it’s easy to get confused about what you can and can’t do, based on government announcements.
So to help you navigate what’s going on in your state beauty-wise, we’ve put together the latest guidelines (from the official govemernment websites) in one helpful state-by-state list.
Scroll down to find your state for the latest update…

I’m just waiting for laser clinics to open up again. :'(
I want to get my hair cut but I still might wait awhile
It’s been so long since I’ve been to a hairdresser. I’ve been trimming my own for a couple of years now
I am really looking forward to getting my hair cut again.
I haven’t been to the hairdresser, but hubby has. I really do need to visit the hairdresser. My hair feels too long and untidy. The salon I usually go to has been closed.
I feel sorry for the small business operators who are suffering financially, it’s bewildering how you can get a haircut but not a manicure, It must be very frustrating for them.
I am SO hairy!! I have become Neanderthal woman!!! My poor beauty therapist the day I can finally go back in!!! Man!
Thank You BH for the Essential Information regarding Hair Salons need to make an appointment with my hairdresser.
Hopefully it won’t be too long before Beauty Salons are Opening Soon!
Big dilemma- this is the most I’ve grown out my roots, should I keep going? Will definitely get a cut though.
Just have to trust that the experts know what and when things can open. I miss the gym more that any beauty services.
I need a haircut but I’m waiting a bit longer
Luckily I got my hair cut just before this all hit. Kinda wouldn’t mind a new style atm though.
I had a hair appointment the other week which I made months ago before all this started. Ended up cancelling it and rebooking for another month. My colour will definately need doing by then as it will have been 3 months since I last went to the hairdresser.
I cut my own hair teehee
I have two vouchers for two different spas that I cant use at the moment 🙁
my hair is very overgrown and needs some love. But I will wait it out a bit longer and see how it all goes. It is very unknown at the moment, however looking good.
I’m looking forward to going and getting my eyebrows waxed
My hairdresser is still closed.
Well I cut my own my fringe and coloured my hair, so all good for a weeks lol
My hairdresser who works from home is only seeing one client at a time and is doing a great job at the cleaning measures between clients. I’m looking forward to seeing her again when I can.
My hairdresser just reopened so I got my extensions taken out so my hair is easier to manage.
Thanks for the informative article, BH! Been colouring my roots at home, and probably will continue to do so for a while.
I’ll wait a while longer…….
I just want a brekkie from a cafe.
Cannot wait to get a haircut
I’m not happy why no rules are enforced for hairdressors to wear masks and gloves when cutting hair . No one seems to care about this .
Looking forward to this! 🙂
I’d love to get my hair style cut into a long shaggy bob or something like that atm.
I walked past a hairdresser today (a tiny teeny one) where there was no room for such social distancing of the 2m square – that was in NSW today. I happened to be walking past on the outside and looked in the window. You know those tiny little barber/haircutter style shops in the shopping centres? I guess they are risking their own lives first but it’s not good they are then risking the communities lives beyond that. There was a mum and her daughter waiting their turn to have their haircuts on the waiting seats which are definitely within 1.5m of the seats and the moving hairdresser!. I have noticed a lot of other salons are not open yet and I don’t blame them.
Me too. I gave my daughter a trim at home yesterday.
Thank you for the update with the virus restrictions relating to hair salons for each state. I am well and truly ready for a hair cut.
Don’t go to hairdressers as I like to do my own hair the way I want (not the trendy and trained way). One across the road from me was open all this time and was happy to see customers daily while passing by.
I’ll just let my hair grow again…at least for a little longer
My hair really needs a trim, I’ll just have to wait.
Can’t wait until the nail salons open again.
Eyelash and brow salons are open again, but not nail salons? And hair salons pretty much stayed open even though most don’t practice social distancing? Who comes up with this lol?
Thank you for sharing this, as there are so many conflicting messages right now!!!
I’m looking forward to getting my brows threaded & tinted again (and having the blonde mo’ threaded away). That’s all I’m really missing atm. My hairdresser is still open but I’m putting off my visit until next month.
This is probably the least of my concerns, but I do need a trim! Fringe couldn’t wait and my handy work was actually not bad this time – I spent a lot of time on YouTube first.
I’ve been trimming my own hair but I can’t wait to be able to get my eyebrows done again!
We’ve been cutting our own hair and it’s passable for now.
My hairdresser is still open, thank god.
I think my one is too – they are now around 60 so I expect they probably would be.
I want to take advantage of these restrictions by letting my hair grow…but it desperately needs a cut. What a dilemma! lol
Well done, hope they were appreciative
A good article, appreciate the update
I’m looking forward to the reopening of salons. I have a couple of vouchers for services to use up. I also think it’s about time I went for a brow reshape. I’ve been plucking for years and think they’ve gone a bit unsymmetrical.
totally understandable.
I dont mind my hairdresser being closed but I dont like the state of my hair currently lol
I’ve got a Groupon for a facial that I’m keen to use when I’m able.
It hasn’t really affected me as I don’t go to beauty salons, just the hairdressers for a cut. I’m lucky to be in a state where we’ve only had 1 case in the last 30 days.
