Courteney Cox was 30-years-old when she was introduced to us as Monica Geller on Friends. And now, at age 58, the actress has opened up about her experience with filler — and why the injectable treatment is her biggest beauty regret.
During her interview on the Gloss Angeles podcast, the actress spoke about her home care line, Homecourt, and spilled her go-to makeup essentials. And in true candid Courteney style, she also got real about ageing in the public eye and reflecting on her decision to get filler.
“Thinking I was getting older when I was really young, that’s just a bummer, a waste of time,” Courteney said. “It’s a domino effect, it’s like you don’t realise that you look a little off, so then you keep doing more cause you look normal to yourself. You look in the mirror and go, ‘Oh, that looks good,’ you think, and you don’t realise what it looks like to an outside person.”
“Thank god they are removable,” the Scream VI star added. “I look at pictures of me from when I thought I looked okay, and I can’t believe it.”
This isn’t the first time Courteney has opened up about her history with cosmetic procedures. In an interview with The Times in February 2022, Courteney admitted that there was a time she “tried to chase” her own youthfulness. And while plagued by plastic surgery rumours in the tabloids, she didn’t realise at the time how different she was looking.
“There was a time when you go, ‘Oh, I’m changing. I’m looking older’… and I didn’t realise that, ‘oh sh*t’, I’m actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now,” she said. Ah hindsight, it’s a beautiful thing.
And earlier in 2017, she told New Beauty that she’d had her fillers dissolved. “I’m as natural as I can be,” she shared. “I feel better because I look like myself.”
She said of her face at the time that she was “trying to make it not drop” but that “everything’s going to drop”.
“You need movement in your face, especially if you have thin skin like I do. Those aren’t wrinkles — they’re smile lines. I’ve had to learn to embrace movement and realise that fillers are not my friend.”
As she approaches 60, Courteney’s perception of ageing has continued in an accepting direction. Finishing her interview with The Times, she said: “There’s nothing wrong with being 60, I just can’t believe it. Time goes so fast.”
“There’s no question that I am more grounded, I’ve learnt so much in my life — what to enjoy, what to try to do more of, and what to let go of.”
To which we say amen, Courteney.

Have you ever had fillers? Or felt pressure to ‘look youthful’?
No and never.
Yeah, fillers aren’t for me either
I would love to look more youthful but don’t like the idea of fillers
I totally agree, I think my mum looks great with her wrinkles so I hope I age just as gracefully as she has
All female celebs are under sooo much pressure form the weird industry they are bought into. Love her honesty.
Yeah, I would hate to have the way I look scrutinised constantly
I wouldn’t have plastic surgery. I’d worry about it going wrong.
Yes one just never knows what could happen.
The fear of it going wrong puts me off as well. Not to mention the scars
Noooo never ever thanks! Looks like it would be such waste of time going to appointments and then worrying if the fillers slopped and slipped into wrong areas like I’ve heard they can do. Fillers make everyone who gets them look like the same ‘cat face’ – so sad – we are not cats and cats with fish lips can look even worse in my view
Courtney looks way better natural and so glad to hear she’s become honest with herself and stopped the fillers
She definitely looks better natural. Fillers look so unnatural
Love Courtney, but she looks great natural
Yes you are right. She is very beautiful.
Reading about the things that can go wrong makes me reluctant to try it, it’s great when celebrities can be honest enough to admit they’ve had procedures done.
I’m glad she stopped using fillers, she was always naturally beautiful and definitely doesn’t need them.
How long will it take for the fillers to dissolve? She doesn’t look like any 57 year old I know.
Most likely has access to great dermatologists who refuse to do any more drastic work on her.
She doesn’t look like herself. Her cheeks are too high. I have low self confidence but I don’t want to have that much work done.
I agree- I don’t have great self-confidence either but I refuse to go under the scalpel or get extreme fillers.
She really ruined her face with all of those injections. She was already so gorgeous
I agree
She was absolutely stunning!
Not willing to try them.
Refreshing honesty. Thankfully I’ve never tried anything like the procedures she has – or any other.
No fillers or pressures from others to look younger. I think there are more important things to focus on.
I totally agree- life is short!
Her face did go through a period of looking weirdly taut. I’m glad she’s being honest & rejecting that fake look.
I’ve never had fillers & never will.
So many of us are afraid of ageing when it’s a natural process!
I would get fillers if they weren’t so expensive.
Courtney looks best au naturel!
Subtle changes are fine but so many people who suffer from dysmorphia end up with disastrous results. I blame Cosmetic Cowboys, some plastic surgeons and some dermatologists who set their ethics aside as they chase dollars.
I agree
The pressure that is put on females to retain their looks in Hollywood is just so wrong. They are scared to grow old gracefully because of not getting work..
It is a reality for that profession
I’m glad she’s being so open about this
Incredibly hard to grow old in the spotlight but not worth using fillers. Love her friends advice of wrinkles as smile lines.
yes they have a lot of demands to always look beautiful
I wouldn’t want to loo “Surprised “ all the time. Love when people are honest about it.
Should say look not loo 😂
It is sad that so many people feel such pressure to go too far and end up looking unnatural.
Yes they can look so plastic and that is aging too
Great, the celebrities tell the truth about the cosmetic procedures upfront they have gone.
For many people beauty is just a facade. I am not thinking about fillers like to flaunt my age.
I have had Botox and think it is great when done well, but not so keen on fillers.
No to fillers, but I would try botox
Id get botox
She did look terrible
It must be hard to be in hollywood, it would be so hard to be happy with yourself.
So glad Courtney can now accept herself for who she really is- a strong beautiful woman.
I’m happy to age gracefully!
Agree, but as mentioned elsewhere it must be hard to be in Hollywood and having always look your best and even better
So many other non in vasive treatments now
I think all Advertising promotes youthfulness.
I have had Botox in the past but it is a vicious circle. Too expensive for me these days.
I like she’s honest and open about it. I don’t have any intention to get fillers.
I can appreciate her honesty. It will give people another perspective to consider before getting fillers.
Yes she has been very candid
Good on her for waking up to the manipulation.
I respect her openness and honesty. Hollywood places so much pressure on women. Courteney is a brave woman.
Why on earth would my comment require moderation??
No, as no need. I understand her pressure living in the spotlight. Me, I look best when just raw myself!
Good on her for continuing to spread the word. It must have been embarrassing to admit, but we could all see the changes.
I have never used fillers as i don’t like the idea of injection products into my skin
Age naturally and lie is a lot easier and cheaper!
Not sure if I would get fillers or not would like to see some lines disappear.
I do agree she had a period when she looked really weird. I’m okay with ageing. Don’t love it every day, but it’s not that big a deal.
No, fillers of any kind are not for me.
I don’t consider fillers. You will look beautiful and unique the way you look like.
I dont like the idea of fillers, but I think if you do like them, go for it.
we all have regrets and it is good to be open and honest.
I have never been pressured, but i have thought about it
Better without them.
I appreciate her being open and honest
