What is CBD oil?
Cannabidiol, a.k.a CBD, comes from the stems, flowers and buds of cannabis plants. Its main form is oil, but it can also be made into powders and pills (mainly for ingestion). In its purest form, CBD is 100 per cent natural and offers a range of holistic and medicinal benefits – especially when it comes to anti-inflammatory properties. But the full extent of its effects and benefits are yet to be discovered.
Is CBD legal in Australia?
CBD oil is currently only legal under certain circumstances in Australia. If you’re buying full spectrum CBD oil (i.e. 100 per cent natural whole-plant extract) you’ll need to be approved for a script by the government’s Special Access Scheme and purchase the oil through a doctor or specialist clinic. There are online retailers both within and outside Australia that supply CBD products (and that aren’t actually legal), but there is no guarantee you’ll be getting a legitimate product with the full benefits. Once CBD is fully legalised in Australia, you can expect to see CBD oil popping up pretty much everywhere, from skincare to hair care and even medicines. It is already legal in the US and UK, where CBD-based products are ruling the beauty world and beyond.
How can I use CBD oil?
We know that CBD has a multitude of complexion-perfecting powers and can be used to treat eczema and rosacea, target early signs of ageing and even help fight acne.Plus it’s all natural so works perfectly to soothe easily irritated and sensitive skin. But the full benefits of CBD oil extend beyond just your skin. Research from the US has found that CBD actually helps in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, and there are a myriad of health and wellness benefits. Here are six surprising ways you can use CBD oil….
#1 CBD coffee
There are many ways to ingest CBD oil from gummies to capsules and even in your food. In the US, you can actually buy CBD-infused coffee beans, so your latte doubles is even more comforting. If this isn’t really your thing, you could always try adding a few drops of pure CBD oil to your daily brew.
#2 Bath bombs
You can now soothe your aches and pains with the help of CBD oil-infused bath bombs and salts. This really puts a new spin on essential oils, with the anti-inflammatory benefits of CBD working their magic to rejuvenate your muscles and help you relax.
#3 CBD suppositories
Once upon a time cannabis remedies were actually relied upon by doctors, especially when it came to women’s health and gynaecology, and now we’ve come full-circle with these CBD “tampons”. These pill-sized capsules are designed to soothe pain caused by periods, endometriosis and sex, where CBD’s anti-inflammatory and relief benefits really come into play. Most are made with coconut or hemp oil and are inserted exactly the same as tampon, where they dissolve and the relief comes almost immediately.
#4 CBD lube
Yep, this totally a thing. This kind of lube is perfect for people who often experience pain during sex, but can also be used simply to enhance your experience. Keep in mind that it is an oil-based lube, and these aren’t always condom-friendly so you may need to take extra precautions…
#5 High heel relief
New heels? No problem. Just slather some CBD oil or CBD-infused balm onto your feet to remedy the pain. This is Mandy Moore’s go-to for when it comes to breaking in a new pair of stilettos, and we can’t wait to give it a try.
#6 Hand sanitiser
Alongside anti-inflammatory benefits, Cannabinoids have been found beneficial to anti-viral and immune-boosting responses, so it’s no surprise that CBD is now being incorporated into hand sanitizers, especially when it comes to natural formulas. As an added bonus, CBD hand sanitizers also work to rejuvenate your skin so you can say goodbye to dry, itchy hands this winter.Main image: @absolutely_alliHave you heard about the benefits of CBD oil? Would you consider trying it if it became legal?
I’m super keen when it all becomes legal here omg.
Hoping this works for pain relief. The beauty side would be a bonus!
I got it from a company called The Cannabis Company, who are Australian based. They do a specially formulated oil for pets, and I’ve found it very effective for my dog.
Let’s hope this becomes available.
Great article!
I’ve heard that the oil is also great for people with sleep issues and anxiety.
I would dearly love to get hold of CBD oil for the pain throughout much of my body when it is more easily available.
I’ve seen hemp oil supplements everywhere in chemists lately. Apparently it’s a great atternative to fish oil for omegas.
Hasn’t it also been proven that medical cannabis can also help the aid of curing cancer? But yeah I definitely try the bath bombs
Does it stink like weed?
I find it so strange that so many people have severe chronic pain and need it but can’t (either Drs don’t know much or it’s not affordable or just they don’t meet “criteria” yet it can be used in skincare.
I hope that this means the medication side is being increased as well.
I personally would love to try it For pain relief and for my daughter
It is huge in the states and other countries and we are being denied a valuable medicine which is frustrating and cruel. I hope we can go down the road that some US states have done and it is huge business too, I hope to try some products out too.
It’s amazing how widespread it is in some states in the US. Some of the dispensaries look like high end boutiques!
I will prefer CBD oil beauty products to traditional ones. Most of all it does not smell like weed and can be blended with Coconut oil and more. I found amazing CBD oil products on https://vapestore.cannabissolutions.icu/product-category/cannabis-oil/ you can give a try to walk a step into the future
I Hope so. It could help so many people
I hope so too sootyblack
I understand it helps with pain and could give those who need it some relief. That’s a good thing
One thing that really stops CBD is its legalization. And, I don’t blame the authorities because many people might use this to harm themselves or others. It’s just that, with this restriction, how will it help people with their ailments? Good thing that skincare is permitted, and I saw cbdsense.dk, or else my rosacea will just be here for the rest of my life. Thank goodness for CBD.
Yeh it seems to have a great market overseas. It’s an interesting product and I wonder how it compares to flaxseed oil. My daughter is a Human Food Scientist so I think I will ask her about this.
Yeh if people really need it that bad – what can be the harm? I take a tablespoon of flaxseed oil every day for it’s anti-inflammatory effect.
I’m pretty sure my sister in law uses it but she doesn’t talk about it much at all. Have to admit she recently took herself off to Nimbin for two weeks! Hmmm she said it was for a gardening course!! lol
Maybe it can be purchased in Nimbin? Not sure but I think there is a health shop that is online that is situated there. Just a thought if people like you have a real need for it. Or iherb from US? gee woops I just remembered though it’s illegal here still – but Nimbin people seem to get away with that kind of stuff don’t they?!
It sounds like it has the effects like flaxseed oil (which is what I use) so I’m surprised it’s not legal here like flaxseed oil is.
and so a whole new range of beauty products will appear
