3 Natural Beauty Products Zooey Deschanel Always Has In Her Makeup Bag

Zooey Deschanel favourite natural beauty products

Zooey Deschanel has spent her career cultivating an image as one of Hollywood’s most recognisable quirky girls.

But despite her kitschy retro-inspired aesthetic, the products in her makeup bag are surprisingly contemporary, with Zooey prioritising formulas that push the envelope in the natural category.

From a multipurpose moisturiser that’s also made Hannah Waddingham’s beauty essentials list, to a lip product that nails the no-makeup makeup look, and an Aussie SPF that feels like a face serum — it’s easy to see why she counts them as items she can’t live without.

Weleda Skin Food Original

$12.25 from Look Fantastic

“People used to put it on for hand cream, right? It’s really thick. I had some, and I wanted a really thick moisturiser. And I was like, Why don’t I just put this on my face? I mean, it’s all-natural stuff,” Zooey told The Strategist. “So I just tried it, and it’s amazing and it’s cheap.”

“Look, a lot of people break out if you put on heavy products. So I get it’s not for everybody, but if you have dry skin, this stuff is great for your face,” she went on to say. “If you’re not worried about breakouts and you have dry skin, it’s fantastic.”

Ilia Balmy Gloss Tinted Lip Oil in ‘Linger’

usually $44.31, now on sale for $35.79 from Revolve

This was a product that Zooey was gifted by Ilia, but she never got around to using it until a makeup artist was rifling through her makeup kit.

“She saw that I had it, and she was like, ‘Oh, that’s a really good colour. That’s a really nice product’. And I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, I just had it here.’ And I tried it, and it’s so pretty,” she shared with The Strategist. “It feels nice and softens your lips. It’s a little glossy, but it looks really natural.”

“I wore it in the movie I just did, because it was kind of a natural look. And I remember, the director, she was like, Oh my God. Whatever you had on your lips looked so natural,” she explained in the interview.

“There are a lot of nice shades, and nothing is overpowering, and it kind of leaves a little bit of a stain,” she continued.

  • Non-sticky, glossy finish
  • Enriched with hyaluronic acid and botanical extracts
  • Free of talc, carbon black, gluten, silicone, soy, nano particles, sulfates, phthalates, and parabens

Kora Organics Silky Sun Drops Organic Sunscreen Serum

usually $76, now on sale for $57 from The Iconic

“I never go in the sun. I hate sun. I dislike it. I know it’s also bad for you, but I also just hate it. So I’m always wearing a hat. And then I have these,” Zooey joked. “I tried these because I know Miranda Kerr, who started the company. She gave me a sample, and I loved it.”

“It’s a mineral sunscreen that’s not tinted, but it disappears. It’s not like chalky-white-mime, which a lot of mineral sunscreens are. And no matter what you do, it’s like that: It’s just glowy and kind of disappears,” she explained. “You can put makeup over it; it’s a nice primer and smooths the skin. It’s kind of like a serum, but it’s sunscreen.”

  1. I’m going to buy Silky Sun Drops Protection Serum SPF 15 it has raspberry oil and I think this product will be much better than regular sunscreen, I mean safer, because it uses more natural products.
