The Ultimate Beauty Travel Essentials Checklist

While travel is one of the most exciting things you can do – it often gets the best of you. Between dehydrated skin (thank you very much airplanes) and hair that has been put through chlorine, salt and sun, sometimes you come home a little worse for wear.

And while we know not everyone is lucky enough to be able to travel, we’re here to make your life a little easier if and when you do. Whether your go-to option is to lay by the pool, or you’d rather hit the slopes, here’s our round up of the beauty products you should never leave without packing, regardless of where you’re heading…

Lilysilk Sleep Eye Mask

From $28 at Lilysilk

A feature on every packing list, yes, but for good reason. Whether you’re flying, driving (being a passenger, that is) or end up in accommodation with a little too much natural light, an eye mask is crucial for helping you get that all important beauty sleep. Plus, as it’s made with 100% silk made of the same amino acids and proteins as skin, it helps maintain moisture levels for the delicate eye area.

Ipsum Best Skin Nourishing Face Oil

From $52 at Ipsum

A superhero hydrator all the time, but especially perfect for long-haul flights, this oil features anti-inflammatories to soothe, botanical oils to calm and moisturise a tired complexion. A bonus is that the 30mL size is perfect for hand luggage, and application during flight will ensure happy, glowing skin come landing.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II

From $74 at Estée Lauder

If you only have the packing space for one night time skin care product (besides Ipsum, obviously), then this is your guy. Perfect for replenishing lost moisture from flying and travel, this overnight serum works to reduce the visible appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve the visible evenness of skin tone and protect against future damage.

Impulse Wide Awake Body Fragrance Mist

From $10 at Coles

Luggage weight limits can make packing a full bottle of heavy perfume a pain, and that’s precisely why we recommend opting for a lightweight body mist instead. The bottle may be less breakable and easier to find a slot for, but the scent itself still smells luxurious as long as you choose carefully. This ‘Wide Awake’ scent from Impulse features dreamy citrus, minty eucalyptus and aromatic basil, bound to suit any destination.

  1. I like this current list! All I could use. I would chuck in also travel sized mist just to keep refreshing while on that 24 hour flight eek. Vanilla SPF? yumm! If it has good filters, must check

  2. I like to pack light, so I prefer multi-purpose products. I don't go on long breaks, so I skimp where I can.
    1. Tinted sunscreen – it's got full SPF coverage & it's makeup, too!
    2. Plain Sorbolene decanted into a tiny bottle – for face, body & the ends of my hair.
    3. Tweezers – I'm obsessive about finding stray hairs. If I can't pluck it out the moment I detect it, it drives me CRAZY!

  3. When I travel I do not take travel products packed in glass (especially if packed in a suitcase when flying). I like facial mists to rehydrate my skin; a Facial Moisturiser that contains SPF; and a good neutral lipstick that goes with everything.

  4. I swear by the Miracle Hair Treatment, everyone comments on how much better my hair looks since I've started using it. Thanks BH reward room! I also tried the Beachfox on my last holiday and I absolutely loved it. The only thing you need to be careful of is because its clear and has no residue, you can easily miss a spot as you can barely tell where you've applied it. I ended up with a few weird random sunburnt patches where I'd consistently missed putting it on. But that is the only drawback, seriously it is hands down the best sunscreen I've ever used in every other way.

  5. After many years of travelling and over-packing, I now keep my own list of must-haves – exact products are updated from time to time but product types generally remain the same.

I tend to now decanter products that I use on a daily basis and take them with my travels instead of trying samples. The products are tried and tested on my skin and I know I can count on without having to buy new/unknown products that might irritate or just not work as well. I also bear in mind the climate that I'm going to be in.

  6. It probably depends on where I'm going and for how long as to which products I take. But, I do like to take as many multi-task products as I can and I like to take a BB cream or foundation that will do justice during the day and also at night. I wouldn't mind trying that Guerlain L’essentiel Natural Glow Foundation.
