Ever since I laid eyes on David Bowie I was in love – with his make-up that is. His glammed-up alter ego ‘Ziggy Stardust’, who donned a flaming red mullet, flamboyant outfits and extravagant make-up, still leaves me in awe.
Since Bowie’s ‘Ziggy’, there have been many others who have caught my eye with their glam rocker alter ego look – Michael Jackson, Madonna and Gwen Stefani, to name just a few.
Most recently, Stephanie Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known as (and much easier to pronounce) Lady Gaga, has taken make-up to a whole new level. From a full face of diamantes to a lightning bolt painted across her eyes, Gaga never ceases to amaze me (I am one of the many who after seeing her film clip ‘Just Dance’ attempted a blunt fringe and full lashes).
Stepping into the make-up spotlight with just as creative and impressive looks is American Idol runner-up, Adam Lambert, who plans to release a make-up line in the future. His film clips feature him wearing smokey eyes and dark eyeliner with all the finishing touches.
Outrageous outfits and OTT make-up certainly isn’t practical everyday, but it sure does give me some great ideas for fancy dress parties.
