The light of my life

The light of my life

I’ve a confession.  I’m not a regular beauty salon visitor.  I haven’t been to beauty salons much in all of my f**ty years. In all honesty it’s a stretch to get me to a hairdresser.

It’s not that I don’t enjoy a salon visit from time to time – I know that for many women it is a wonderful, pampering experience. For me, finding the time among work, family and social activities makes it tough so I rarely get around to booking anything. I haven’t had my haircut since December (sorry, Brad!) and while no-one has actually said anything, I’ve not been asked to take part in a beautyheaven video or photoshoot for a few months now and let’s just say  I have my theories as to why not!

So, if I make a commitment to such an activity, my expectations are high – really high.

Our good friends at True Solutions offered me a fabulous gift – a series of six Omnilux treatments with matching skincare products from Priori.

I had heard about Omnilux many times before and it sounded intriguing.

Fast-forward to two weeks later and I’m relaxing on a really comfy treatment table in a darkened room on a cold and wet Thursday afternoon tucked under a furry doona with the soft sounds of chill music. Bliss.

Jane (my gorgeous and ever-glowing therapist) explained that we were to start with skin preparation and then a light peel followed by ‘the lights’ – which is the Omnilux part.  She warned me that they were bright, very bright, and that some people freaked out.

The lights are bright – there’s no getting away from that.  In the first session, and especially the first ten minutes, it’s so bright that you just can’t help squinting, despite the fact that you’re wearing black goggles.

It’s really interesting to observe how we so easily adapt to bizarre conditions that are thrown at us.   In week one when the lights came on it made me a little crazy, my brain was full of wild messages while seeing and trying to mange the colours and the intensity. So my breathing had to be managed and my mind had to be calmed.

But as the weeks have gone by (four, so far) it’s amazing how quickly I’ve become comfortable and relaxed.  The first three or four seconds are still a bit of shock to the retinas but after that I’m sooo happy.  So happy to be warm and comfortable, to be snuggled up when I should be at work,  having beautiful hand and foot pamper-time and skin improvement all at the same time.

And the results?  Well I’m going to save that for analysis after the full six weeks but for now, just know that I’ve never loved a beauty salon like this before, and I’ll be back. Regularly. Now maybe it’s time for a haircut.

Have you ever tried Omnilux? Do you want to?
