If you’ve been watching Emily in Paris on Netflix, you’ll be well acquainted with the chic and multifaceted character Sylvie. Played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, her storyline (and her swagger) is the main reason we binged Season 2 in as little as three days.
In real life, Paris-born Philippine embodies the same stylish and confident aura of the French woman she portrays on screen. And if we didn’t love the sound of her enough already, the 58-year-old also has the best take on ageing gracefully.
“I understand the insecurity, the pressure that we get, especially in our business. But if somebody doesn’t start saying, ‘This is my age, and this is who I am, my wrinkles are my wrinkles, I own my wrinkles, this is my whole life…’ it’s kind of sad,” she said in an interview with Glamour.
“Ageing gracefully is being a kinder person than you were when you were younger because life kind of polishes you. And having a better understanding of how people feel, who people are, and having more compassion and less competition with everybody else.”
Ok, it’s official, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu is our new favourite person. What’s more, the French beauty also shared her skin care routine.
Is that the Paris pharmacies calling our name? Here’s how she gets that ‘Sylvie glow’…
Cleanser: ZQ-11 Moisturizing Amino Acid Cleanser
“It’s a Korean brand, I believe. It was given to me by a friend, and I love it so much.”
We were unable to find an Australian stockist, but you can check it out on Amazon.
Toner: Flower water
“For my tonic, I just use a flower water you can get anywhere. It can be rose water, it can be orange water. Just anything really natural. I can spray it; when I feel like I need more, I just dampen a cotton pad and apply.
Try: Sukin Naturals Rose Hydrating Mist Toner, $5.99 at Chemist Warehouse
Serum: Clinicare X3M EGF Refresh Serum
“It’s a very light serum, almost transparent , and it’s really hydrating. My skin type is normal, but then it gets drier in winter, obviously, so I love this product.”
We were unable to find an Australian stockist, but you can check it out here.
Essence: Clinicare X3M EGF Refresh Essence
“This is really hydrating. It penetrates the skin, and it feels plump and fresh after you apply. If the weather isn’t too cold or too hot, I only wear this. When it’s a bit colder, I might put something else on top at night.”
We were unable to find an Australian stockist, but you can check it out here.
Moisturiser: La Fervance Éclat Extraordinaire
“This is a cream that I learned about from an Australian woman who lived in Paris and is now back in Australia. It’s an incredible cream that I’ve been using for almost a year now, and I’m just crazy about it. I apply a super-thick layer at night when I feel that I’m really needing some moisture, or as a very thin mask during the day. Just make sure you really rub it in. At night you can leave it on and when you wake up, you’ll still find some under your eyes, and it’s nice knowing it hasn’t dried up during the night. It’s just a really nice cream.”
$298 at the nativesco.com.au
Lip balm: NUXE Rêve de Miel Lip Balm
“It’s so good for dry lips.”
$20.99 at French Beauty Co.
Tool: Dermaroller
“[One] with little spikes — not needles, just little spikes. You turn red for like five minutes — and it’s great to really get the blood flowing — but then it goes away. I use it every morning.”
Try: Manicare® Microneedle Derma Roller, $39.99 at Priceline

Do you watch Emily in Paris? What are your favourite French beauty products?
I’ve never heard of this show before.
Wow- she looks great and very natural.
I’ve never heard of the show, she uses some interesting products and spends quite alot on skincare by the looks of it.
I loved her in Emily in Paris and I am sure that a sequel is comng. The clothes and shoes are great.
I’ve not heard of this show
Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu has some wonderful advice about aging gracefully, she uses some great brands of Skincare Products some that I haven’t heard from before.
Great reminder to use the face roller again! Not familiar with shows of any kind. For years haven’t seen a movie of anything similar. Do like Avene, LRP. Yet to try more french beauty products.
What does the face roller do?
Apparently lots of things (scarring, collagen production, texture etc). Depending on needle length. I have smaller ones, using for better product penetration and surface skin stimulation to regenerate.
Yohanna do you really notice the difference? I have a jade roller and don’t feel like it does much – this seems like it would yield better results
thank You I need to look at getting one of these
I have no idea who she is but I love her philosophy.
She looks absolutely amazing for her age.
Love her secrets, and the way she plays her character on the show!
J’adore this show.
I love the show. OMG who would spend $298. .
I don’t know her or the show but she is naturally attractive and has good skin.
yes lovely and natural
Haven’t heard of her or the show.
Ive not heard of this show.
She does look pretty good for 58.
Yes indeed -I think being happy with how you are shows through
I have never heard of this show but Emily looks lovely and so natural.
A beautiful natural beauty! Love the show.
Pretty good for 58 and she looks great in Emily in Paris. I’ve also seen her Call My Agent but she doesn’t play a main character.
I’ve heard of the show but have never seen it
Good to see Sukin on the list.
Some very expensive products, but the dermaroller sounds good. I haven’t watched the show (looks a bit light for my tastes!), but I’ve been hearing a lot about it.
I’ve heard of the show but never watched it so I’m not familiar with Philippine. Embryolisse, Avene and La Roche-Posay are a few of my favourite French brands.
She is beautiful.I have never watched her shows.
I’m so scared of the needle roller.
I agree. Not for me.
The only brands I’ve tried here are Sukin and Manicare, both very good
I love emily in paris , lol only because i work in marketing and really find it interesting the show. Shes a great character. I really think shes got natural beauty. Interesting product recommendations, ive heard really good things about Korean products.
That show is on my ever expanding watchlist.
The first I heard of the show was when French fashion YouTuber, Justine Leconte Officiel, answered questions about which of the show’s French clichés were true or false.
I try to buy Aussie, but French products are always so luxe!
So many are false! I have so many French friends and have back and forthed between Paris and Melbourne over the years. The creator of the show wanted to make it as ridiculous as possible and she succeeded!
Justine Leconte isn’t Parisian, & she says that most French people agree with the cliché that Parisians are arrogant.
When I was in Paris I found some arrogant but on the whole so many helpful lovely people
OMG! I just fell for a comedian’s prank! That particular “writer” never wrote EiP! Tis another Darren Star production! 😂
Huh? Who, what, where, when, how, why?
I love a good Red lipstick with a “natural” makeup look.
I too have embraced facial mists but only since lockdown. I use mine twice per day.
Not tried any, I can’t wait for season 2
I find “Emily in Paris” so cringy and it’s just the exact audience reaction the creator of the show wants to elicit. Haha!
I binged Emily in Paris as well. Now I’m going to Price line to get a roller. I’m 62 and really working at ageing gracefully
Never heard of this beauty or the show before.
Loved hearing about her – it’s cool that she is so similar to her character – I haven’t watched this show but it would be cool to see by the sounds of things. Love how she took advice from an Aussie – I wonder who that woman was – someone with money to burn – maybe Nicole K?!
I love this show, and Lancome is gorgeous too
Never seen this show, but I like her philosophy.
The dermaroller sounds interesting.
Not a huge fan of Sukin products
Anything to age gracefully gets my attention
Yes that is what I would be happy with
New to me. Thanks for the information.
I love the French’s focus on natural makeup!
she is beautifyl
I haven’t heard of any of these products before.
That moisturising mask sounds really luxurious….but so is the price! Nearly $300.00? Eek!
