Summer S.O.S for hair

Summer S.O.S for hair

As much as we love summer (lazing at the beach, cocktails at sunset…), we don’t love that the scorching sun can cause our locks to become dull, parched and coarse: especially when sleek, soft and feminine is the go for this summer’s hot hair styles. This is precisely why we’re falling head over heels in love with these sassy hair saviours …

Summer ’08 is all about smooth, chic styles (think classic Jennifer Aniston) and you simply can’t create this with dry, lacklustre locks – no matter how hard you try. So as we make a beeline for beach season it’s time to turn your attention to your tresses.
Steer clear of chlorine, rinse your hair with fresh water after going in the sea, apply conditioner at the beach, wear a hat, blah, blah, blah. I’m not saying don’t do these things, but if your hair is going to survive the summer you need to take action way before you hit the beach.
Here’s how:

Seek clarity
Similar to your facial beauty routine, start by ensuring your hair is thoroughly cleansed. This means getting rid of product build-up, chlorine and salt. Try a clarifying shampoo like Pantene Pro-V Classic Care Purity Clarifying Shampoo, which rids the hair of dirt and grime while adding a bit of va va voom.

Nourish
Give your mane some loving with John Frieda Frizz-Ease Overnight Hair Treatment. Not only do we adore this because it’s so super easy (pop it into your hair before bed and voila!), we also love, love, love that it works throughout the twilight hours (while we’re busy getting our beauty sleep) to mend our poor split ends and leave us with beautifully soft locks come morning.

Shine from within
Where possible, try to let your hair dry naturally to avoid heat damage. However, if you heart your straightener/tongs/hairdryer as much as we do ours sprirz a little Paul Mitchell The Shine on your hair before styling. Its marvellous mix of jojoba, algae, aloe vera and rosemary, leaves hair silky and oh so soft.

Sun protection
You wouldn’t go out in the midday sun without sunblock so why subject your hair to the harsh sun? L’Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Solar Sublime Protection Spray may have a really long name but don’t let that put you off. Spray onto your hair and ta da! You have a protective film around the hair fibre which guards against UVB rays plus it gives hair added shine.

So there you have it – the how-to for happy hair. I’ve also heard that mayonnaise makes for a great deep hair conditioner but we’ll leave that up to you to try.

Do you have a hot hair tip to share?
