We tried the ‘Sock Curls’ hack from TikTok and here’s what happened

If you’re one of the 33+ million people who have already viewed the viral TikTok video, then you’ll already know all about the #SockCurl.

And if you’re also like me, you’ll know finding a matching pair of socks is something that just doesn’t happen. But that’s ok, because they don’t need to match! Rejoice.

And while I am trying to resist the downward spiral of the average TikTok users day (wake up, shower, TikTok, realise is 2053 and that the limit does not exist) – there are some videos I just need to try out for myself.  And yep, the sock curl made the list.

My sock curl journey

1. Section damp pieces of hair into two parts

2. Wrap these parts around a long sock, in a criss-cross shape (I’m going to go ahead and presume we all know this is to be a clean sock)

3. Fasten with a hair tie at the bottom

4. Repeat until you’re entire hair look like this:

(Stylish, I know)

5. Once the hair is dry (or once you wake up if you decide to sleep in it), untie the socks

6. Let your new stunning curls bounce around to the sound of your voice saying ‘oh my gosh it actually worked!’

Curling techniques have been around long before our beloved wands and irons, so this isn’t revolutionary – it certainly entertained me for a few hours!

If you want to see the expert TikToker’s try it out, check out a video here

Have you tried this type of curling technique before? Will you give it a go?

  1. Very different remember Rag Curls they worked tying damp hair up in cloth rags and taking them out after quite a few hours later or even sleeping in them at night. It definitely seemed to work!

  2. haha…omg, when I was about 13, 14. (last century xD) I experimented with wavy hair (My hair in dry cold climate where I lived is dead sleek straight). And used my sister’s nylon socks ahhahah…this brings memories. By the way: It works! I looked like a sheep xD

Love your method more Ruby! You look gorg =D

  3. Gee, I remember my childhood days of having rags wrapped around my very long hair every Saturday afternoon. Very uncomfortable to sleep in. I don’t know why anyone would want to use socks.

  4. Me too. I did try this when I was in my late teens & it looked quite good. I have straight hair. Just add mousse at the end of the day when dried out & ready to go out at a cost-effective do.

  5. The results look good. Seems easy to do but I bet I won’t be able to do it. I’m hopeless when it comes to curling/adding waves to my hair, no matter how simple the technique.

  6. I’ve actually tried just twisting them in tiny little knots and securing with hair tyes and sleeping in them. They turned out nice but the worst and most uncomfortable to sleep in

  7. I saw another Tik Tok one to curl hair. Pull hair into a high ponytail then divide into 4 sections. Using a curling iron or straightener, wind the section of hair. After you have done the 4 sections pull your hair down from the ponytail and there should be a wavy curly look. Think I might try it today!
