I assume you’re currently thinking something along the lines of “Me? Showering wrong? I’ve only been doing it my entire life! How wrong could I be?”
Perhaps the word ‘wrong’ is a little harsh, you have after all made it this far without any serious repercussions. But there are certain things you may currently be doing in the shower that aren’t necessarily doing your skin or hair any favours. Let’s see if you’re guilty of any of them:
WAYS YOU’RE SHOWERING WRONG #1 – Cleansing your face in the shower
Who doesn’t enjoy a warm shower on a freezing cold day? We’re only human. But if you insist on keeping the temperature high, at least cleanse your face separately at the sink. This will encourage you to use colder water, which is better for the delicate skin on the face.
WAYS YOU’RE SHOWERING WRONG #2 – Jumping out when the water runs cold
Nobody wants to end a shower on a freezing cold note, but try to withstand it if you can. Ending your shower with a cold blast of water helps to seal the hair cuticle for shinier hair. You don’t have to wait until the hot runs cold either; there are taps for that.
WAYS YOU’RE SHOWERING WRONG #3 – Brushing your hair in the shower
I know, I know, it’s just so much easier to brush your hair when it’s slathered in conditioner, but you really must stop. Water weakens hair strands making them more prone to breakage. So for strong and healthy hair, try brushing out your knots before jumping in the shower. Or if you really can’t resist at least use a wide toothed comb instead of a brush. bh recommends: Lady Jayne Wet Care Sure Grip Comband Scunci Grooming Wide Tooth Comb.
WAYS YOU’RE SHOWERING WRONG #4- Using soap everyday
It’s time to move on. The days of soap on a rope are over. Most soaps contains harsh cleansers that strip the skin from natural oils, leaving it tight and dry instead of smooth, soft and clean. Try using a soap-free hydrating cleanser instead. bh recommends: Natural Instinct Sensitive Soap Free Body Wash and Lux Indulge Body Wash.
Top tip: for an added hit of hydration (and to save you from having to moisture after your shower), apply NIVEA In-Shower Smooth Lotion during your shower, after you’ve used your body wash.
Are you guilty of any of the above? Are you willing to change your shower habits?
I don’t think I ever really used soap- just QV wash which is the best!
Awww I spent so long thinking it was a better idea to wash my face in the shower! That was honestly devastating news haha
I haven’t used soap in the shower for a long time. I prefer a liquid body wash. The Nivea In-Shower lotion sounds like a good idea.
I thing I shower all wrong but love them all the same – I do use soap on a scrubbing brush if I have dirty feet but not all over.
I had the overpowering smell from the outside of the shops and find it too overwealming to go inside
I wash my face masque off when I go into the shower but the water is not necessarily hot, just gradually warming up.
