Decadent skincare steps to add to your daily routine now that you’ve got the time

Under normal circumstances, it’s safe to say the skincare routine we’re able to bang out before work Monday to Friday is very lean compared to the self-care-centric regimen we commit to on the weekends.

Because when your bus, train, ferry, spaceship etc. is due to leave scarily soon, a quick cleanse and moisturise scenario is about as good as it gets.

So, during the period of self-isolation, why not commit our usual commute time to our complexions? Because for the time being, self-care doesn’t have to be saved for Saturday or Sunday; a skin-boosting silver lining.

From face masks to crystal massages, here are the decadent skin care steps we suggest you add into your daily routine now that you’ve got a spare halfy in the A.M (in no particular order – mix and match as you wish).

Aceology

Aceology Ice Globe Facial Massager Set ($64, adorebeauty.com.au)

Billed by the brand as a ‘pilates workout for your face’ these pore-tightening, puff-reducing ice globes are stellar for lifting and illuminating stressed, tired skin. Just roll them upwards along your jawline, cheekbones and forehead, then pop them in the fridge to make sure they’re icy cold when you need them next.

LUMISKIN

LUMISKIN™ Ava 2 in 1 Sonic Beauty Device

Okay, we all have the best intentions when we buy these clever cleansing tools, but most days, our gotta-go style rinses don’t allow time to use them properly (it only takes two minutes, but honestly, that’s how long our weekday showers normally are). Lean into a longer shower by lathering your complexion up with cleanser, then gently moving the device across your cheeks, chin and forehead to more effectively dislodge impurities.

Samson & Charlie

Samson & Charlie Jade Facial Roller

Now we know what a jade roller is capable of: boosting glow, reducing puffiness, etc. but how often do we give it the chance to actually work? Give it a go straight out of the shower once you’ve applied your oil or serum; it’ll feel phenomenal against your post-tub flushed face.

Conair

Conair True Glow Warm Steam and Cool Mist Facial Sauna

Who needs to visit the spa when you have a sauna for your skin in your own personal beauty stash? The two-step system works by first hitting skin with warm air to clear out and purify pores, before using a cool mist to hydrate and calm the complexion. There are five settings that let you choose the length of your facial (the options range from three minutes to 15), but hey, why not go for the longest option? We’ve got nowhere to (physically) be.

Skin Republic

Skin Republic Green Tea Hydrogel Face Mask

Honestly, seeing as sheet masks are generally reserved for that ‘4pm on Sunday accompanied by a wine and five episodes of Gilmore Girls‘ slot, even the mere idea of applying one on a weekday morning sounds exciting. This option teams green tea with chamomile and hyaluronic acid to create a formula as calming as the ritual itself.

Kat Burki

Kat Burki Micro-Firming Wand ($160, mecca.com.au)

If you’re keen to capitalise on skincare benefits during self-isolation, we suggest investing in this absorption-aiding device. To use, just apply a pump of your preferred product to the applicator tip; the micro-firming wand will kick into gear as soon as it hits skin, helping the formula to penetrate as deeply as possible.

Spascriptions

Spascriptions Hydrogel Under Eye Mask – Cucumber

We don’t mean to call out our coworkers, but we’re going to guess that some of them would definitely shoot confused looks our way if they spied us wearing eye masks at our desks. Well, we’ll bet your friends, fam or partner will be more understanding of your orbital area needs. Pop a pair of patches on post skincare application and enjoy the relief for hours; just remember to whip them off before your next video chat.

Ultraceuticals

Ultraceuticals Ultra Rich Moisturiser Cream

A super rich moisturisier isn’t always an option when you have to move straight to makeup in order to get out the door, but when we’re embracing our bare faces while WFH, it’s a no-brainer to opt for additional nourishment. This creamy concoction is perfect; it provides all-day moisture plus a plumping effect you’ll come back for time after time (AKA tomorrow, and the day after that).

  1. I’ve always been curious about facial rollers. I’d probably go for a Rose quartz one, with pink being my favourite colour. I’ve often wondered, do they work? Are they just a gimmick? Perhaps I should just get one and find out for myself!

  2. I am actually working on giving myself more face masks. Im now here alone and dont have to worry about anyone else. My time is my own so I have the opportunity to indulge myself.

  3. Being busier than ever with everyone now at home working individually online for work/uni/school etc, and having to buy groceries more carefully than ever which is more time consuming i.e. I have to actually wash the tofu before putting it in the fridge when I get it home from the shops – things like that. I'm actually finding I have less time for myself these days due to these covid19 reasons. I actuallty like everyone being home though, but it is more work as they tend to make more mess when they're all at home and I need to put a hand in for my daughter's homeschooling (which I honestly love doing but it's harder for her because she is 15 and adjusting to a different learning style – but she works so hard I think she'll adapt beautifully).

Loving receiving my Easater Showbag though because it's given me a little bit of specialness just for me to escape with (and write some reviews too which I love to do!).

  4. I actually got told I won a comp that includes a foreo luna play and a jade roller so it looks like I'll finally have some of these goodies to try out for myself. I need some extra pampering so I'll try my bedt to use them.

  5. I have a rose quartz one. I ordered mine online from Adore Beauty and also had some store credits with them for doing some reviews so it hardly cost me anything.

I can highly recommend it. I use it daily morning and night, it's so relaxing and cooling on the skin. Have used it every day since I received it. Would make a great gift for someone as well.

  6. I use a facial roller, sheet masks, under eye patches and the Lumi Skin device in the shower. I love being decadent with my skin. I'm interested in the facial steamer…

  7. Not trying to be a negative nancy but these are really pricey and bit tough to get my hands on since theres no work right now. But I definitely have been keeping my eye out for the lumiskin, have heard great things about it and need to try it when I can

  8. Great tips! These days I am totally make-up free so I am using Iso to perfect my skincare routine so I really liked this article! Did purchase and started using a face roller and I happy to say I do see a difference! If you are thinking of investing in a face roller, research which one is best for you, there are jade ones, amethyst ones, rose quartz and each have their own benefits. I use an amethyst one as it is best for acne and acne prone skin! I have also been face masking a lot, which I am thoroughly enjoying!
