Rachel McAdams Isn’t Going To Let You Retouch Her Armpit Hair

Rachel McAdams has had the opportunity to live out most people’s wildest dreams on-screen in films like The Notebook and Doctor Strange. But in her personal life she’s far more inclined to honour authenticity than fuel a fantasy.

“I love that juxtaposition of beauty, glam, fantasy, and then truth,” Rachel said in a recent interview with Bustle, referencing a past photoshoot with Girls. Girls. Girls. magazine where she posed with breast pumps strapped to her chest.

Rachel is in favour of unretouched photos…

As we saw in her Bustle photoshoot, Rachel asks that minimal retouching is done to the images. Which means her honest tufts of armpit hair are here to stay, as is her post-baby bod.

“With this shoot, I’m wearing latex underwear. But I’ve had two children,” she said. “This is my body, and I think that’s so important to reflect back out to the world.”

“It’s OK to look your best and work at it and be healthy, but that’s different for everyone,” she went on to say.

She’s confident in her decisions

Her candour extends to her latest role in the film adaptation of Judy Blume’s Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret, an honest adolescent exploration of faith and puberty.

“I remember being very disappointed by my first bra,” she revealed. “I wanted leopard print, but it was more like a bandeau top with a tiny little white bow.”

According to her sister and makeup artist Kayleen McAdams, Rachel’s assuredness is something that she carried with her into adulthood; “[Rachel is] very confident in what she believes and being able to align with her inner compass.”

“Rachel has such a strong internal sense of self and a really strong belief that the world will work out as it should,” she gushed.

We’re in love with Rachel’s refreshingly confident attitude about her body. What are your thoughts on photo retouching?

  1. Yeh unretouched photos are nice but speaking with a ‘retoucher’ he said they even do teens these days – and in fact, he said, that they do the most retouching on teens. I was super shocked by that, I didn’t think they’d need any but then he mentioned pimples and stuff.

  2. Good on Rachel for taking a stance in what she believes in, but I can understand why others in the spotlight would be happy with photo retouching because not everyone is happy with their appearance.
