Fresh tomatoes make us think of salads, sandwiches and even a delicious pasta sauce. Skin care, however? Not exactly front of mind. Unless of course you’re a member of the Chopra family, in which case, you’d be regularly transporting this fruit from the kitchen into the bathroom in a bid to revive lacklustre skin.
Reflecting on some of her first-ever beauty memories, it’s Priyanka Chopra’s mum that springs to mind. More specifically her homemade remedies.
“My mum has always been a big fan of natural beauty,” she told Grazia. “In fact, just last week she told me, ‘sit down, your skin looks like it needs some help’.”
So, what’s the process behind Priyanka’s skin-reviving facials?
There are two key elements to pulling this off. The first, Priyanka’s secret weapon: her mother. And the second, the hero secret ingredient: well, we’ll leave that to Priyanka to elaborate on: “[My mum] mixed together oils with tomatoes and a few other ingredients and gave me this amazing facial.”
The results? “My skin ended up being squeaky clean and looking super glowy,” Priyanka described.
But why tomatoes?
Unbeknown to most, when applied topically, tomatoes can pack a punch when it comes to naturally soothing inflammation, cleansing skin and even working to fade pigmentation. Rich in beta carotene, vitamin C, lycopene and vitamin E, tomatoes can even help with unclogging pores and evening out skin tone.
If you don’t quite trust your DIY facial-formulating skills and would rather something that’s all packaged up and ready to go; here are some of our favourite tomato-infused skin care products:
Ella Baché Tomato Radiance Cream
We say: The gentle acidity of tomatoes helps to regulate an imbalance of the skin’s pH which works to ease surface oiliness without stripping the skin.
You say: ” It’s thick and you would expect to have super greasy skin after application but it quickly absorbs into your skin and it’s lovely. It’s not too expensive but it is dearer than some but I think it’s worth it.” – TheLisaMC
