Oil cleansing has become more mainstream in recent months. Celebrities are doing it, health gurus are doing it, and a fair few ‘normal’ people have hopped on the bandwagon, too.
But what is oil cleansing? And is it better than regular cleansing?
I’ll admit I was sceptical at first. I have oily skin, and I couldn’t understand how slathering my skin with even more oil would help with that. So I did a little research, and as it turns out, the oil cleansing method is not just for those with normal or dry skin – it’s beneficial for shinier ladies as well!
What is oil cleansing?
The oil cleansing method is what it sounds like. Instead of using your usual foam, gel or cream cleanser on your face, you opt for oil. It leaves skin clean, radiant and free of make-up and grime.
What are the benefits of oil cleansing?
While oil cleansing is ideal for complexions in need of a little (or a LOT of!) hydration, it’s really great for oily skin types, too.
Let me explain. The basic principle behind the oil cleansing method is that oil dissolves oil. So, applying oil to already oily skin dissolves pore-clogging sebum and wipes away make-up, dirt and impurities.
As for those with normal, combination or dry skin, oil cleansing work a treat. It gets rid of the stuff you don’t need, and leaves you with the hydration you do.
How do I use an oil cleanser?
It’s easy! Lather your face with oil and massage it in for a couple of minutes. This works the oil into your pores so it can do its thing. Then, wipe your face with a warm washcloth. Ta-da! Say hello to cleansed, replenished and soft skin.
