I was a little gobsmacked when I found out cooking extraordinaire Nigella Lawson is 52. FIFTY TWO, PEOPLE! That glowy skin, those sparkling eyes and that striking chocolate hair could easily belong to a lady in her late 30s, don’t you think? I’m utterly impressed with her graceful ageing, really.
Now, there are rumours that her youthful beauty has a lot to do with her non-restricting attitude towards food, but it also has a lot to do with her beauty routine. So, if you’re keen to look as fabulous as Nigella Lawson in your 50s, I’m definitely suggesting you take notes on these five beauty lessons…
NIGELLA LAWSON BEAUTY LESSON #1: don’t over-pluck your brows
Let them grow! Let them get thick and full! Why? Well, this is the key to a youthful face. Well-groomed, wonderfully-arched brows help to balance and frame the face, and can also help a drooping eye area look lifted. The trick is to visit a professional groomer first, so they can shape your brows in a way that flatters your face shape. Been a naughty over-plucker in the past? Many of the lash-thickening or regrowth products on the market can be applied to the brow area to encourage hair growth there, too.
NIGELLA LAWSON BEAUTY LESSON #2: use creamy, luminous make-up products
A powdery, cakey face will instantly add years to your age. So, to look as fresh and glowy as possible, always stick to cream-based make-up products. Luminous foundations, sheer lipsticks and stunning crème blushes like Nigella’s are a brilliant option. If you suffer from an oily t-zone, apply an oil-control primer beforehand to help maintain a glow while also nipping any oil slicks in the bud.
NIGELLA LAWSON BEAUTY LESSON #3: don’t go overboard with colour
Nigella has a lovely shade of pink on her lips and cheeks, and her eyes are highlighted by false lashes and a little bit of eye liner. There isn’t an abundance of colour on the eyes or lips or cheeks. She looks natural. She’s simply enhanced her natural features and it works. She looks healthy and pretty without slapping on too much slap. Smart move, Nigella.
NIGELLA LAWSON BEAUTY LESSON #4: don’t be afraid to cover your greys
Got a few silver strands? Or maybe you’re the owner of a full head of greys? Either way, don’t be afraid to dye your hair. Sure, you can embrace them, but if you’ve got fair skin like Nigella or you’re just not ready to head down that road, speak to your stylist about a hair hue that’ll give you a healthy glow and is easy to maintain. Nigella’s rich chocolate strands do wonderful things for her eyes and skin, making her radiate with health.
NIGELLA LAWSON BEAUTY LESSON #5: always wear sunscreen
Now, I have no idea if Nigella actually uses sunscreen on a daily basis, but that fact that there’s little to no pigmentation at all on her face suggests she does and has for years. Follow suit and you’ll be left with even-toned, plump skin as well.
Do you think Nigella Lawson looks sensational for her age? Do you know any other beauty tricks for looking good when you’re over 50?
