Starting out selling non-toxic nappies, Jessica Alba’s e-commerce site, The Honest Company has grown from strength to strength since expanding into the world of natural beauty.
Valued just shy of $1 billion dollars in 2017, the brand has successfully gained a mass and loyal following of people all eager to be kinder to the environment, their skin and quite frankly, get a little bit closer to that iconic Jessica Alba glow.

However, if you’re yet to try out any of the products on offer like the cult-favourite Hydrogel Cream, the Internet is busting with the next best thing: beauty tips from the non-toxic beauty founder herself.
And the latest pearl of wisdom? The popular ingredient that the mum-of-three believes we just do not need.
Speaking to Bustle, Alba revealed her “must-avoid ingredient in skin care” is *drum roll please*, fragrance. A regular on any sensitive-skin-types blacklist, Jessica suggests we could all benefit from avoiding perfumed formulas.
“I would say the number one thing I look out for is perfume and fragrance”, she said. “It’s just unnecessary, you don’t really need a synthetic fragrance in your skin care or makeup”.
In fact, when it comes to her skin care ethos, Jessica shared, “I really want to give to my face what a green juice gives to my body.”
So if you’re ready to walk away from the perfumed product life and treat your cheeks to a big ol’ glass of metaphorical green juice, here are our recommendations for some fragrance-free goodies: Eau Thermale Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Skin Protectant, CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion, Elucent Eye Cream, SunSense Ultra SPF 50+

Added fragrance is not needed but having said that a light fragrance doesn’t bother me.
Agree ! Perfume in facial products created a dreadful reaction .for me. A red “angry” rash which took a long time to clear up.
I totally agree with her. There’s no need for fragrance in our skin care. It just needs to be gentle and effective.
Agreed. Too much fragrance irritates my eczema.
Fragrance free is good for sensitive skin.
Agree. Artificial / added fragrance has little to no place in skincare. Some skincare items scent is way too heavy for my liking. I’m ok with a little light fragrance but I don’t feel like I need it in my skincare.
Pretty obvious isn’t it? Just adds unnecessary costs in making the product?
Hmmmm…. Personally I feel the simpler the better…. All this stuff, is it really worth it???
Jessica sure is gorgeous
She’s right – fragrance can irritate skin. There are ingredients that are naturally fragrant already.
Maybe the artificial fragrance is added to mask the smell of the some of the other ingredients?
For a minute there I thought she was dissing perfume
I have not tried Honest company before.
I don’t think that her products are available in Australia at the moment, but I found them at iHerb:

I always try to go the perfume free option
My daughter gets eczema from anything other than omo sensitive. It’s amazing.
oh yeah that’s so true about the washing products. I have to use omo sensitive for my eldest daughter though she’s hardly ever here these days as she’s now 23.
When I came out of major surgery a few years ago a nurse’s perfume made me feel like vomiting! I was extra sensitive at that time because of the anasthetic, empty stomach, dehydration etc.
Great tip sp!
True — I don’t mind having some natural rose scent in then or something like that! So beautiful and special. I think rose was made for me!
Yeh and loved watching her little video.
Yes! The QV night moisturiser is like this – I’m trying it out atm
ooh thanks petal! next order…..
She’s a gorgeous lady!
You poor thing. I remember the anaesthetic made my stomach off too, it took me days afterwards to stop wanting to throw up after eating.
I love rose too but only subtle rose , coz if it is too potent then I get headaches. I love tuberose and vetiver scent as well but that too when is it subtle.
I got through it – took days as well yes just like you eating made me throw up. Glad that’s over for both of us!! xo
I agree with her. Fragrance-free is best!
Essential oils can also sensitise the skin.
