Nothing beats a celeb skin care secret. But as much entertainment as we all got out of the whole Hollywood-approved ‘foreskin facial‘ thing (shoutout to Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett for that one), sometimes it’s nice to nab a tidbit of intel that we actually want to put into play.
And leave it to Meryl Streep, queen of acting/Abba singalongs/the whole damn world, to bless us with a tip that not only is easy to try, but costs exactly $0. The best advice in life is free, right? Right.
Meryl Streep’s #1 beauty secret
Yep, while she may have sung her heart out to ‘Money, Money, Money’ in Mamma Mia, Meryl’s favourite skin care secret doesn’t rely on anything that’ll drain your funds. It doesn’t even require a fancy formula!
In fact, it’s more about not doing something. And if you’re lazy like us, that’s a giant win.
Journalist Fi Glover once had the pleasure of joining Meryl at a dinner party (we know, the envy is eating us alive, too), and managed to secure a stellar skin secret straight from Meryl’s mouth. Score!
“She said that her one beauty secret was never to touch her face. She never touches her face,” Glover shared, as reported by The Daily Mail.
That’s it! It’s that simple! Meryl’s gorgeous complexion is kept that way by keeping her fingers away from her face. Easy and genius.
It’s a solid rule to set. Repeatedly touching your face can spread bacteria like wildfire. Any rubbing/tugging of the skin can even result in added pigmentation or wrinkles that perhaps wouldn’t have otherwise arisen.
That means no leaning your chin/cheek in your hands, no applying makeup with your fingers, and certainly no prodding/poking/picking at pimples. Not that we’ve ever even seen Meryl with a blemish – and now we know why!
Does she use her hands to apply her skin care?! Look, we’d assume it’s the only step that warrants an exception. But look, we also wouldn’t be surprised if Meryl has some magic moisturising trick up her sleeve either… it is Meryl Streep, after all!

Do you apply makeup with your fingers/touch your face for any other reason?
My mum gave me a very similar tip when I was young.
I’ll have to give that a try and see if it works
Hard to apply skin care or cleansers without a bit of help from your hands-perhaps this is done by other’s hands
hahaha, hilarious. I guess all that makeup applied and face cleaned on her is by invisible force of god.
Yep. I laughed too.
Same. I need to stop. It’s a bad habit.
Whoopsie. My reply was to JuJu47.
I am shocking as I am always touching my face!
I use my fingers to apply a lot of products, naughty me!
I do too -Can’t see that this could create any problems.
I think it’s great advice.
That’s great advice. I use brushes for makeup and clean them on a regular basis, but I have the bad habit to touch my face.
She has aged so gracefully. She looks amazing.
Well I would suck at sticking to this rule!
Good for cleanliness
I guess that you could apply skin care with a brush. It seems a waste but she does have good skin. I massage my face every day. I don’t have an issue with touching my face, of course after washing my hands.
After washing hands I cant see a problem with touching your face. and using a brush??
I apply all my skincare and makeup with my fingers. I admit I’m a face toucher and I’d never pass the ‘no touching face’ rule.
sometimes I use my finger to rub product in, but not often
Maybe touching one’s face too much might be an issue for someone that has acne, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.
I bet that’s harder than it sounds, though!
What a great tip! I am always touching my face
For hygiene reasons, this is probably reasonable. But as an anti aging regime? Colour me skeptical.
That is so hard not to do even though it makes sense and during Covid we were told not to
Yes I was thinking about during covid when we were all told not to touch our faces. So hard though
Ever since reading this article I have been trying to not touch my face but I must do it hundreds of times a day. I am shocked at how often I catch myself doing it.
Habitually leaning your head on your hand with your face scrunched up would obviously be bad, but all touching? Perhaps it would make a small difference.
Yes. I use my fingers to apply make up products. I feel it is easy than handling a brush.
What an example to us all she is. So lovely.
Unusual advice, probably not a good idea to touch your face too much though.
Yes, you don’t want to spread germs!
Hmmmmmm my face does not mind my clean hands at all.
wish I had that kind of self control
