How to heal your lashes after extensions

It takes a total of five seconds seeing yourself with thicker, longer lashes to declare you couldn’t possibly live another day without them.

While there’s no denying that lash extensions take our eyes to a level unrivalled by mascaras, there can come a time when, for whatever reason, we need to take a break. And in turn, allow our natural little lash friends (as small and pathetic as they may seem in comparison), flourish on their own.

With proper care your lashes shouldn’t feel the brunt of extensions too much. However, dependant on a number of factors concerning the process of removal, general wear and tear, and how well they were looked after, there’s a chance they’ll be in need of some TLC.

Here is a mix of the best DIY methods and products on the market to nourish, revive and stimulate the growth of your natural lashes:

Eyelash Serums

Lash serums will maintain steady hair growth for both existing lashes and empty follicles.

So whether you’re completely starting from scratch or needing to boost the length of pre-existing lashes, a serum is a good step to add to your routine.

bh recommends: RapidLash® Eyelash Enhancing Serum, L’Oréal Paris Clinically Proven Lash Serum and Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Serum.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Natural olive oil is full of essential fatty acids that will moisturise, thicken and soften your eyelashes.

Dip a disposable mascara brush in olive oil and brush it through your lashes.

Be careful not to pick up too much oil on the brush so it doesn’t go into your eyes.

Castor Oil

Rich in vitamin E and ricinoleic acid,  castor oil comes highly recommended for thickening and stimulating lash growth.

Castor oil will also give the natural keratin in your hair an extra boost of strength, reducing breakage.

Diet Rich In Omega-3’s

Foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, eggs, walnuts and avocado will open the follicles and promote healthier lashes. A diet rich in these essential fatty acids will strengthen the pre-existing lashes and also stimulate new growth.

Lash Enhancing Mascara

If you’re going to be wearing mascara anyway, why not get the most out of it and try out one with an enhancing or strengthening serum within the formula.

bh recommends: Nutrimetics nc Lash Impact Mascara and Lancôme Cils Booster

Vitamin E Oil

The celebrity of lash growth stimulating oils, vitamin E is an ingredient found in most lash serums and hair growth supplements.

This wonder ingredient will promote stronger lashes while also moisturising the hairs at the same time.

bh recommends: Plunkett’s Vita E Oil

Gentle Makeup Removers

When it comes to makeup removal, our lashes are often compromised from rubbing and harsh cleansing.

Look for micellar waters or gentle oils, in particular with ingredients such as aloe vera, chamomile or cucumber as these will prevent any inflammation to the already damaged and sensitive areas.

Products that include vitamin B5 will also be beneficial in moisturising the thickening the lashes.

bh recommends: Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water Delicate Eyes & SkinBIODERMA Sensibio H2O and Sukin Naturals Micellar Cleansing Water

  1. I've been getting lash extensions done for over 3 years now and they never caused any damage to my own lashes. My lash salon is very good, and my last ones lasted over 6 weeks without infills during isolation! The salon also now does sell DIY lash removal kits, so I finally removed them after 8 weeks lol. It's super quick and easy. The only time I ever damaged anything was sleeping with my face buried in my pillow or picking at the grown out ones. It's recommended to use a lash serum even when wearing lash extensions to keep them strong and healthy. I use Revitalash both during extensions and whenever I remove them. The problem with my lash type is that they are super long, but straight and fine, so it would take me 20 mins just to curl them and apply enough coats of mascara, then wiping off the residue from my eye area to look decent. Proper qualified lash technicians who use proper products will never damage your own lashes! Sometimes they just look shorter after removal, but that's just an illusion. My eyes look bald without them :p

  2. So many lucky beauties with long natural lashes. Mine a fine and fair and even mascara doesn't seem to work too well for me. I used to get them dyed years ago and that was good, at least I had colour but then again you need a good 'technician' to even do that. I don't think I would go for extensions in my late years now. Look after your lashes!

  3. I had lash extensions for over three years and they are very addictive, but long term do damage your lashes even though my technician was very good. I had a complete break from them and went natural, it took two years of serumsand lash lifts to get them back to normal. Now lash extensions are a special occasion treat only

  4. I haven’t ever had lash extensions but always use a good serum. The Loreal and Maybelline lash serums are really good and a reasonable price. My favourite expensive lash serum is Priori

  5. HOW I GOT CURED OF HERPES DISEASE
I'm here to testify about what DR. OSO did for me. I have been suffering from (HERPES) disease for the past 5 years and had constant pain, especially inside my body. During the first year,I had faith in God that I would be healed someday. This disease started circulating all over my body and I have been taking treatment from my doctor, few weeks ago I came across a testimony of one lady on the internet testifying about a Man called DR. OSO on how he cured her from herpes disease. And she also gave the email address of this man and advised anybody to contact him for help for any kind of sickness that he would be of help.so I emailed him telling him about my (HERPES) he told me not to worry that i was going to be cured!! Well I never believed it,, well after all the procedures and remedies given to me by this man few weeks later i started experiencing changes all over me as DR. OSO assured me that I will be cured, after some time. I went to my doctor to confirm if I had finally healed Behold, it was TRUE,the test came out negative. So friends my advice is if you have such sickness or any other at all you can contact DR. OSO for help.
