Kristen Stewart steps out in vampy red eyeshadow

My, my. Isn’t Miss Kristen Stewart looking foxy? And maybe even a little vampy, some might say? Both flattering descriptions are perfect, really, and the reason this Twilight starlet has earned such praise for her red carpet appearance at AFI Fest in LA is because of this: her red eyeshadow. Well, her rusty, crimson eyeshadow if you want to get technical.

Red (and pink for that matter!) eyeshadow is a tough hue to wear. Very tough. When worn incorrectly, you can end up looking like you’re knocking on death’s door. Not pretty.

The reasons Kristen Stewart’s On The Road premiere make-up look worked was because a) she chose a rustic, burgundy red hue and teamed it with coppery browns and lilac greys to soften the intensity, which works perfectly with her fair skin; b) she matched said eyes with a rich burgundy lip (and even though eyes and lips are usually not recommended, the tonal combination here works perfectly); and c) she pulled her mop of hair up and off her face – if she left it down and flowy, there’d just be too much of, well, everything really.

Add to that some perfectly groomed brows, minimal bronzer and lash-defining mascara, and Kristen Stewart looks like the seductive vampy superstar she truly is. I’m in love.

Now, what if you love this look but don’t look a thing like Kristen? (Read: you’re the owner of medium to darker skin.) The good news is this: olive skins can afford to go a little nuts when it comes to red eye shadows. In fact, the bolder the better – your skin tone is the perfect canvas for this striking pop of colour. Just keep the colour on your lips quite muted – anything nude or ever-so-slightly peachy would work a treat. This lip tip goes for the fair-skinned among us too: not many can pull off such extreme hues on the eyes and lips at the same time.

Oh, and if your super-new to the colour red but are keen to give it a whirl on your eyes, don’t fret. Grab yourself a red eyeliner and make your scarlet move in baby steps. Draw a winged line along your upper lashes for an intriguing effect, or take it under the lower lashes only and team with lashing of mascara for a runway-esque creation.

What do you think of Kristen Stewart’s beauty look from the On The Road premiere? Are you a fan of her striking look? Would you ever wear red eyeshadow or eyeliner?
