Even beauty editors have their beauty woes. For some, it’s dry skin, for others, bad nailbeds (guilty) or oily complexions. And for bh’s Bree, it’s thin hair. Along with 30% of Australian women, Bree struggles with fine hair that lacks volume and flat out refuses to hold style – plus, she’s also dealing with postpartum hair loss, the poor thing! It’s a daily battle that affects almost 1 in 3 women, so when we asked her to road test the L’Oreal Elvive Fibralogy Thickening Shampoo, Conditioner and Serum, there were a few squeals.
It’s the first thickening range that works to enhance the hair fibre from within to deliver genuine thickness, wash after wash. Along with visible thickness, it’s formulated to give hair natural-looking, fullness, volume, body and bounce. Sounds too good to be true, right? Wrong! See what Bree had to say after just four weeks of using the range…
Q. Why were you so keen to try the Fibralogy range?
I’ve always had thin hair, so you can only imagine how devastated I was when my hair started falling out in clumps four weeks after giving birth to my son. Clumps! I would sit with the girls from mother’s group and we’d discuss at length who was losing the most hair. During pregnancy, you don’t lose much hair, however, when your hormones start to regulate (approximately three months after childbirth), all that extra hair you kept during pregnancy starts to shed – and shed it does. Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of different products formulated to prevent hair loss and/or thicken hair, and to be honest, nothing really lived up to the claims nor my expectations. There were a few products that made my hair appear slightly thicker, but they always left my hair feeling dry and undernourished.
After reading the rave reviews for L’Oreal Elvive Fibralogy Shampoo, Conditioner and Serum on beautyheaven, I was hopeful that this product might actually work.
Q. Can you talk us through the key ingredients and how they work to improve thinning hair?
There is one super ingredient in this range that sets it apart from other thickening products, and that is Filloxane. It penetrates the hair strands, then once inside, it expands and increases their diameter with every wash. Let’s get science-y for a second. When a solution containing Filloxane is applied to wet hair, the molecules penetrate the fibre and form bonds with the hair proteins within the hair shaft. As the hair dries and the water evaporates, the Filloxane molecules stay inside of each hair fibre, working to thicken and improve the texture and density of hair. The result? Locks that are not only easier to style but hold style for longer.
Q. How has your hair changed since using the range?
I’ve only been using it for a few weeks, but already, my hair feels stronger and looks thicker. Now, I don’t have Elle Macpherson’s luscious locks, but as someone with thin hair, there is definitely a noticeable difference. The best bit is, my hair still feels soft and nourished.
Q. Would you recommend this range for other women dealing with thinning hair?
The product works. From the first wash, my hair felt like a sponge when it was wet, and with each wash, it continued to feel a little thicker. It’s a great product for anyone struggling with fine hair, and I’ll definitely be telling all the girls in mother’s group that I might have a solution for our thin hair issue!
