How Burt came to bee

How Burt came to bee

Way back when in the good ol’ US-of-A, a lady by the name of Roxanne Quimby used to pass by a guy selling bottles of honey off the back of his van, on the side of the road.

Upon getting to know him, Roxanne discovered that this seller of sweet stuff lived in a small turkey coup on a plot of land nearby, where he’d been keeping 30 beehives for over a decade. Intrigued by what he did, Roxanne decided to get to know him better by volunteering to help with the bees.

She soon discovered that this clever beekeeper had been storing the leftover beeswax for many years, figuring that someday he’d use it for something. The time had clearly come, and he suggested that Roxanne start making candles out of the beeswax, which she did – and sold at local fairs.

The candles were such a hit, that the dynamic duo soon had to move to a bigger premises to make room for their growing honey and candle operation. It was there that they began experimenting with using honey and other bee by-products (such as royal jelly) in formulations for lip balms.

Of course, the products – which are on average 99% natural, and ultra soothing and hydrating – became a huge success, transforming the company from a one-room hobby-house to a global operation.

So who was this man with the truck? Well as it turns out, his name was Burt, and they were his bees!
