I enjoy a pampering facial as much as the next girl, but the days of this being my only criteria are well past me – I need to see serious results, too! Over the past 40-plus years, the French salon brand Guinot has developed a reputation for offering both extravagance and efficacy in its treatments, and has been a pioneer of some of the most advanced facial technology on the market.

The Guinot Hydra Peeling Skin Renewal facial doesn’t use any of the brand’s famed machines or equipment, but instead relies on a combination of highly moisturising products and specific massage techniques to deliver results.
According to Guinot, it’s best suited to dry and dehydrated skins, as well as “anyone wanting to refine the texture of their skin and increase their skin’s luminosity”. Given that I tick all of these boxes, I was excited to try it for myself. Find out what I thought below…

What treatment did you get and where?
I experienced the 50-minute Guinot Hydra Peeling Skin Renewal Treatment at Canvas Essential Therapies in Balmain, Sydney.
How much does the treatment cost?
$160.
From start to finish, what did the treatment involve?
My skin was doubled-cleansed with the ultra-gentle Lait Hydra Fraicheur, followed by an application of the PH Hydra Peel. As the peel processed, my therapist, Joanna, gave me the most divine scalp massage and then used a hairbrush to rhythmically brushed my hair. This is honestly my idea of heaven, and a feature that I’ve not experienced during any other spa treatment.
To neutralise the active ingredients in the peel, a serum was massaged into the skin on my face decolletage, neck, back and shoulders. It was a proper massage, too, and it really felt like Jo was undoing all the knots and kinks in my upper body. Bonus: the serum has additional hydrating benefits for the skin.
Next came the Masque Hydra Beaute, which is incredibly moisturising and plumping for the skin. As it went to work, Jo massaged up and down the length of my arms. To finish, she applied eye cream, moisturiser and Longue Vie Bust, a treatment product that’s specially designed to lift and firm the bust (I’ve been using this one post-treatment, and have definitely seem an improvement to my decolletage!).
Complementing each skincare step with a different type of massage was one of the highlights of the treatment. There was an element of surprise because I never knew quite what was coming next, and it truly felt like I’d been treated from top to toe.
How did the treatment feel on your skin?
Jo had mentioned that the peel might feel warm or tingly on the skin, however I didn’t notice any kind of reaction. Instead, it simply felt very moisturising – like a luxe cocoon for the skin.
How did your skin feel immediately after the treatment?
It felt very soft and intensely nourished. Any dryness, rough patches or congestion was whisked away.
How did your skin feel a couple of days after the treatment?
Even though it was a peel, I experienced no actual peeling or flaking, and only minor redness. It took a couple of days for me to see the full results but they were worth waiting for: clear, glowing skin that looked so much more hydrated and radiant.
Who would you recommend this treatment for?
Anyone who wants to feel pampered and see real results, without spending a lot of time. It’s especially effective for those who want to boost overall hydration and radiance.
Anything else worth noting?
Because this is a peel, Canvas Therapies recommends that you don’t exfoliate at home within 48 hours before the treatment. In the days following, it’s important to apply at least an SPF30+ to protect the delicate new skin.

Do you like the sound of the Guinot treatment?
A facial would be great right now! but that’s a bit pricey.
Hmm the skin renewals products are very good for those who are looking for the skin care and treatment …
