So you’re here wondering: what can I do from the comfort of my home that will completely transform my face? And: ‘boy I hope it doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg’. Luckily for all of us, it doesn’t! All it takes is some patience! But of course, you’re wondering, how does your face get transformed?
Well if your face could do with a toxin cleanse (i.e your skin is looking puffier than usual), this technique could be for you. Thankfully, even if your face hasn’t taken to resembling a balloon (if it has, we’d recommend you’d see a doctor) you can still try this technique!

Manicare dermaSCULPT Gua Sha Stone
From $39.99 at Adore Beauty
This obsidian stone looks rather daunting with its ‘teeth’ edges. But rest assured, they’re here for a good (and very helpful) reason. A light scraping of those ridged edges against any points of tension (think the masseter region) will work to relieve a whole lot of tension. Working in five vastly different edges and designs, this stone works to lift, sculpt and detoxify all in a few simple swipes.

What is the lymphatic system?
Often when we see ‘puffiness’ in our faces (and bodies), our lymphatic system is to blame. But what actually is the lymphatic system? The Mayo Clinic describes the lymphatic system as “part of the body’s immune system, which protects against infection and disease”, with many organs, channels and lymph nodes being responsible for moving toxins through (and out of) the body. With over 600 lymph nodes in the body, it’s surprising to find that a third (200) of them are found in the neck, which gives us a very good reason to concentrate our attention on the face and neck.
Lymphatic drainage massage
So, we now know what the lymphatic system is. But why are we going to massage it? Well when lymphatic fluid builds up under the skin it may cause puffiness, so by aiding in it moving through the lymph nodes we’re able to help remove the toxins as it passes through. This can leave our faces looking more defined (no Botox here, just daily face massages).
However, when massaging, we need to remember that the lymphatic system lives close to the top of our skin, so we need to be quite gentle with our massaging movements.
How to use a gua sha
So, now we know all about the lymphatic system, and what a lymphatic drainage massage can do for our faces (and our health). But how do we actually use these handy little stones?
Well the important thing to remember is that we’re aiming to move the toxins to the major lymph nodes and away from the face. So, it’s important to remember that the movements we’ll be following should go up and away.
Before your gua sha even touches your face, make sure that you apply a few drops of your favourite hydrating oil to your face. So that the gua sha is able to lightly glide across your skin.
The first movement will start just under your jaw line. Pick whichever side first (making sure to repeat on the other side) and move the tool down towards your collarbone. This helps to open up the lymphatic pathways. Next start in the middle of your face on your jaw and work your way to your hair line, and then again down your neck. Continue this motion working your way higher up your face, each time remembering to work the gua sha down your neck, draining away the fluid.

Do you think this would help de-puff your skin? Would you use a gua sha at-home?
I’ve never used one before
No I haven’t either
OR GET the 5 dollar one from kmart
I am not sure if I would use this.
I heard about it but never tried it
I was given one as a gift and never use it.
I would probably be the same.
I’ve just read the two Manicare Gua Sha stone reviews and it does sound like a great product. Would love to hear from the two beauties as to whether they have seen visible results long term.
Yes that would be good to know
I have one from the Face Gym. It takes discipline to keep a routine with this up.
Yes I am totally not sure about this
NOt for me
I must admit that I am not great with all these new products on the market. Always worry that if I pay a lot of money for them and them not be able to use them I will have wasted my time and money.
Can’t say I’ve tried it before, sounds good though
Love the Manicare dermaSCULPT Gua Sha Stone! Haven’t tried the others.
i’d like to be better at keeping up this routine, just don’t drop them in the shower, they shatter and leave glass everywhere…
Has anyone seen results using a Gua Sha?
I do have one but admit I’m not consistent enough with it.
So many different face tools now – it is hard to choose.
I hardly ever use my roller. Never used a gua shua before
The Kora heart shaped one is so cute
I know of someone who swears by this but haven’t tried this myself.
I haven’t seen any results
I haven’t used any of these tools
I was given one but I’ve never used it.
I’m not convinced about the effectiveness of these tools.
I use a rose quartz roller once a week. Hard to tell if its making any difference!
I was dubious about gua sha, but lymphatic drainage makes sense. I see benefits when I use my rose quartz roller.
I think it could work after using it with consistency and long term. But you have to be dedicated
I haven’t tried any of these.
