If you’ve seen Netflix’s 2018 reboot of Queer Eye, then you’ll know exactly who Jonathan Van Ness is. If you haven’t (what are you doing?!) he’s the show’s loveable grooming expert. He has an envy-inducing mane and is beyond lively and positive. Also, he knows a thing or 200 about beauty.

Jonathan Van Ness helps people feel confident on Queer Eye. Whether it’s giving them the hair of their dreams or introducing them to the magical powers of brow pomade and colour-correcting, Jonathan knows what’s best.
But Jonathan himself has had to deal with a skin condition. In March he revealed that he has psoriasis (a skin condition that makes skin look inflamed, red and scaly) in an inspiring unretouched Instagram post.
He spoke with Allure about how he deals (and has come to terms with) psoriasis. “I do feel like I’m in a place of acceptance with it now. Like it doesn’t really bother me even if I do have a flare-up, but it took me a minute to get there,” he said to Allure. And to deal with it? He uses a prescription steroid cream and will moisturise with Aquaphor (amazon.com.au) and Cetaphil before applying it.
In a recent Into The Gloss Top Shelf, Jonathan opened up more about his skin care regimen.
“I’m all about prevention—mostly zits and psoriasis. I’m plagued with psoriasis, but I’m on a really good run right now—it’s been a minute, knock on wood. I’ll knock on it twice. It’s all about calming, and keeping it clear,” he told Into The Gloss. “The thing about exfoliators is that when you put it on and start scrubbing, you can literally take your … skin off. You know what I mean? You really don’t have to go hard—it’s just light, light touchies.”
He trusts the Kate Somerville Gentle ExfoliKate Treatment ($95, mecca.com.au) as an exoliator because it’s gentle for his psoriasis.
Some of his other skin care go-tos? Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel ($55, sephora.com.au), Pearlessence Radiance Perfecting Serum ($49.31, amazon.com.au), Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm ($83.07, net-a-porter.com/au), Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil ($112.54, net-a-porter.com/au), Herbivore Blue Tansy Resurfacing Mask ($68, sephora.com.au) and Herbivore Face Mist ($22, sephora.com.au).
And his regimen seems to be working out. In June he posted his excitement about going six months without a psoriasis flare-up.
