Outside of jumping into the ocean or getting caught in a windstorm, nothing can ruin a fresh blow-dry quite like a night’s sleep. Despite all of the anti-frizz hair treatments you’ve been applying, once your head hits the pillow, it’s game over for your glossy, bouncy locks from the night before. Unless, of course, your pillowcase is made from silk.
A silk pillowcase will not only maintain your hair’s shine, but it will also promote the health of your skin, minimise breakouts and even prevent the formation of wrinkles and fine lines — all in a night’s work.
Keep reading to find out more about this skin-friendly fabric and why we recommend making the swap.
Why should we be using a silk pillowcase?
1. They prevent night sweats
Silk pillowcases regulate temperature, therefore promoting a deeper sleep and ensuring we won’t be tossing and turning all night trying to find the cold side of the pillow. Keeping your temperature under control will also keep you from experiencing “night sweats,” which can contribute to breakouts and frizzy hair.
2. They prevent breakouts
Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, which means that it helps to prevent the accumulation of dust mites, mold, and fungus, all of which can cause breakouts and other skin-related flare-ups such as eczema.
3. They won’t absorb your skin care
Due to its non-absorbent and water-repelling nature, silk won’t steal the goodness from your skin care products. Allow your hardworking serums to sink into your face, not your pillow.
4. They’ll reduce split ends
The natural proteins in silk prevent split ends, frizz and dryness by maintaining our hair’s natural oils, which allow it to remain smooth throughout the night. As silk helps to prevent friction, it allows hair to glide gently across the pillow. For this reason, you can say goodbye to bed hair and wake up with silky, tangle-free locks.

Do you sleep with a silk pillowcase? Did you know about these benefits?
Must dig out my silk pillowcase it has so many benefits
I have two silk pillow cases made from dresses which didn’t fit quite right. One is super silky and works well as a pillowcase. One is ok, the last one is too rough so I don’t use it.
Been thinking of trying a silk pillowcase for a while now
I had no idea there were so many benefits from silk pillowcases or I would have bought one by now. Another item going on my Christmas wish list!

I won one a while ago, and find it very comfortable, but can’t say I’m noticing any real benefits.
I’ve just bought a silk pillow case. It will be interesting to see how it goes!
I used Slip silk pillowcases but have recently purchased mysilvi and Go-To versions too
I like the idea of silk pillowcases (I have curly hair that tends to frizz), but they are all so expensive 🙁
