Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been hiding a big secret; no his muscles are in fact au naturel (wow) and he hasn’t secretly been hiding a mane of hair. No, his big secret is: a skin care line. Yep, The Rock is launching into the celebrity skin care space. His point of difference? The (still active-packed) range is understandably targeted towards men.
Let’s be real, the man is busy;, an actor, father and former wrestler (just to name a few), and is always on the go. But when we really sit down and think about it, The Rock really does have fantastic skin. So what is his brand all about? Let’s find out…
The inspiration
Now, this sounds funny to say, but The Rock has long been speaking out about men’s skin care routines. He’s been a keen advocate for more men’s education around the topic (as are we!). The inspiration for creating the brand stemmed from him finding so many open discussions about workouts and fitness routines, but whenever the conversation turned to taking care of one’s skin, it always seemed to be in a quiet ‘pulled to the side’ kind of way. So here he is, standing up and opening up the dialogue about men’s skin care (you go, sweetie).
Papatui Skin Care
The meaning
This skin care line has actually been years in the making. And when you look at just how good his skin is, it’s honestly a shocker he didn’t do this sooner! Taking inspiration from his grandfather, The Rock wanted to maintain the same level of ‘put togetherness’ in terms of fresh cleansed skin and appearance as him. All of these factors play into where we are today, meeting Papatui for the first time.
The name has beautiful sentimental meaning, as The Rock’s nickname from said grandfather was ‘Tui’ and he wanted to honour his place as a doting dad with ‘Papa’.Funnily enough ‘Papa’ translates to ‘rock’ in Samoan. From there we get Papatui. Sweet, right?
The range
So onto the actual range. Created with the intention of education, the 12-strong range is broken down into categories, with each step simply laid out (if they were to buy the whole range). Because scent is such a huge player in The Rock’s life, he carefully constructed each and every one. While the four skin care products (including toners!) are fragrance-free (we love an active-packed, skin-friendly choice), the inspiration for the rest of the line (think body washes, hair care, lotion and soaps) stems from sources deeply special to him. There are fragrances from the Hawaiian Islands (coconut) as well as one of The Rock’s own personal favourite fragrances, Le Labo Santal33. We can smell the aromas wafting by already.
Oh and if you’re thinking ‘hmm toners, that seems bold’, The Rock is a big advocate. In fact, he was personally turned on to the complexion-tightening formulas by none other than Emily Blunt! Yep, turns out we’ve got her to (somewhat) thank for Dwayne’s enviable skin (and the knock-on effect of our guys using his toner formula).
If someone had asked us what was going to happen in 2024, we wouldn’t have imagined this… But here we are. While the range is currently unavailable to shop in Australia, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a global launch announcement coming soon. Because boy, would our men love to get their hands on this ultra-affordable range.

What do you think of celebrity skin care brands? Would you like the men in your life to use more skin care?
There you go! Might have to get hubby to try
It is good to see men embracing skin care and taking an interest in themselves.
Looks like an interesting range.
Amazing – he doesn’t look like the kind of guy to be into face care – can’t judge a book by it’s cover!
he looks a bit of a hunk !!
He does have great looking skin!
Nice! He’s a good ambassador.
Why not, but it’s hard to get men to buy skincare
No interest in celeb skin care but it could be a good way to encourage more men to take care of their skin
As long as it is good quality natural skin care the good on him, otherwise if it is cheap stuff with a new label then I know it is just another money maker. Same goes with celebrity fragrance it is all poison.
We all love the Rock in this house
I don’t go for celeb products, but if it gets men taking care of themselves, that’s a good thing.
Totally agree.
I’m not into celebrity skin care ranges but if The Rock can get men into using more skin care products then well and good.
I told my husband about this but he was’nt very interested.
Much less audience than gals but he’s giving it a go
I dont use celebrity brands but this one should be interesting
I’m not a big fan of celebrity ranges – and my husband is worse! Can’t see him agreeing to try it.
It’ll be interesting to see if men go for this.
This might be expensive.
