I’ve got nothing against yellow, but geez, I’ve never come across a colour that is so tricky to pull off when it comes to clothing. Sure, it appears all happy and bright and sunshine-like, but put different shades of it against my fair skin tone and boom! You have a disaster on your hands.
Lemon, however, is one such member of the yellow family that suits everyone. It is subtle against fair skin, makes medium and olive skin glow, and simply pops in a sorbet way on a dark skin tone.
However, as Mischa Barton so kindly demonstrates, lemon looks best when it’s teamed with bright make-up hues, namely a bold red lipstick and matching saucy digits.
Why?
Well, lemon is a soft hue – one that simply screams out for a little contrast – and a true tomato red gives it the right amount lift. It doesn’t take away from the femininity of the frock, but adds a classic touch instead. And applying this colour to the nails as well creates a wonderfully uniformed finish, while breaking up the abundance of lemon on the lower half of the body. Smart, huh?
TIP: This lemon frock + red lippie and nails idea is a winner for those sporting lighter strands, as it’ll prevent you from looking washed out. Add to that a little bronzer on the face and collarbones and you’ll radiate the perfect amount of warmth and glow.
