The Caroline Hirons stamp of approval is to the beauty world what the Heart Foundation tick is to the food industry. She’s not shy to warn us which products we should never use. So, when she says a product is a go-er, you know it’s been through rigorous inspection, thorough testing and an in-depth bullshit-detector. All of that is exactly what makes it all the more exciting to hear that one of our beloved Aussie-owned brands has not only gained her attention and praise but has been awarded the title of Caroline’s “Best Beauty Brand of 2021.”
And the winner is…? SPF brand Ultra Violette! As a long-term, loud and proud fan of the sunscreen range, Caroline revealed in a blog post [that] “it’s not really much of a surprise, but it IS well-deserved.”
Speaking to her decision, Caroline said “Australia have the toughest regulations when it comes to SPF, so you know if an Aussie brand creates SPF, it’s usually going to be good. Ultra Violette’s packaging literally says, ‘formulated and created in the toughest place to get sunscreen approved: Australia’ – so you know you can trust it.” Amen.
Performance aside, Caroline also praised the brand for its design, inclusive range, informative marketing and of course, the scent – which as far as SPFs are concerned, can often be a deterrent.
“From the bright packaging to the education on the pack, they have something for everyone. Bonus points as they smell incredible, too (Clean Screen is fragrance-free),” she noted, adding that [if] “you are looking for a wardrobe of SPF suitable for all skins, tones and conditions, there’s something for everyone.”
And what would a Caroline Hirons best-of reveal be without a breakdown of each product in the range? From her personal favourite to the sunscreen that won’t upset sensitive skin, here’s what the influential aesthetician had to say…
Her top pick: Supreme Screen Hydrating Facial Skinscreen SPF 50+
“This is probably my favourite face SPF in the range. It is hydrating, without being sticky and gives your skin a gorgeous glow.”
$49, Adore Beauty
Her oily skin pick: Lean Screen Mineral Mattifying Skinscreen SPF 50+
“This is more suited to oily or combination skin types, as it has a matte finish (but don’t worry, it doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky like some other mattifying SPFs). This is mineral-based and should be tested on a darker skin tone.”
$49, Adore Beauty
For the barely-there lovers: Queen Screen Lightweight Skinscreen 50+
“This is similar to Supreme Screen, as it is weightless and leaves a lovely glow, but it is more of a serum texture – so good for if you would like a lightweight SPF.”
$47, Adore Beauty
Her pick for sensitive skin: Clean Screen Sensitive Skinscreen SPF 30
Any Caroline Hirons follower will know her gripe with beauty brands misusing the word “clean”. Exceptwhen it’s done right. “You will be glad to know ‘clean’ refers to the fact this is fragrance-free, and not part of the ‘clean’ movement. This is perfect for if you have sensitive skin, or don’t like fragrance in your products.”
$47, Adore Beauty
Although Ultra Violette took home the gold, the other beauty products that made Caroline’s list included:
Vichy Dermablend SOS Cover Stick
The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser
Monika Blunder Blunder Cover
Curel’s Deep Moisture Spray
Summer Friday Lip Butter Balm
Vieve Skin Nova
Then I Met You Honey Dew Lip Mask
But that’s not all, the next Aussie to be awarded something from Caroline Hirons could be you. To celebrate, Caroline’s giving one international entrant the chance to win the entire collection (pictured above).

Have you tried any of these products? If you’re familiar with Ultra Violette, which SPF variation is your favourite?
I have a love/hate relationship with SPF’s – always trying to find the perfect one. I should give Ultra Violette a try.
Having never heard of her I have no thoughts on her selections.
Agreed – I’m clueless to who this lady is.
She’s okay. She has recommended products in the past that did raise my eyebrow a few times. Particularly her early endorsement of Pixi. She is very much more an influencer in my mind than someone properly qualified to be taking skincare advice from. She has put up some very informative videos about complex skincare like retinol that I have appreciated though.
Never heard of her before, good choices thou.
I’d like to try The Ordinary cleanser.
I have always wanted to try the Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF 50+ Luminising Sun Serum. Haven’t yet used any of the mentioned products.
I’ve never heard of her before but I’ve heard of the brand! Never used any of their products though
Also didn’t know that Australia had the toughest regulations for SPF but it makes sense!
I’ve only tried one – the Clean Screen fragrance free gel SPF30 which I used today actually! I do love it!
good to know someone who has tried -Thank you
It’s great that an Aussie product hit her #1! I’ve never tried Ultra Violette.
Don’t know her, don’t know the s/s brand but good to have an aussie brand commended and recommended
Yes I agree and hope she does well
I have never heard of this -pricey but if it makes you use sunscreen some nice choices
It’s a bit on the expensive side, but I would like to give it a try. Trial maybe??? 😉
All hail SPF. In this hot box where I live, Perth. We have had so many days over 40. This year. It’s essential to wear sunscreen daily.
Got a friend who lives in WA and she said when the temps are up near 50C her tyres start melting
Not surprised . It’s a great brand sunscreen but it is very expensive just for a daily sunscreen.
Hmm ok I admit I have never heard of her but just watched some of her video and she seems nice. I haven’t tried any of the products either but I see that they are a bit expensive.
I’ve only heard of her through BH and the articles she has appeared in, I’m not familiar with Ultra Violette.
never heard of this brand. good to know its Aussie
Not into influencer type of salespeople. She advertises some fames social media brands for marketing purposes and is well paid for it. Do like her fun personality though. Have heard of the UV brand, but not interested in trying as it is too much pushed by social media influencers.
I have tried that cleanser from The Ordinary, it’s not bad but not my favourite. I know a lot of people rave about Ultra Violette, but given how quickly I go through sunscreen, it’d be an expensive habit to purchase theirs.
I have not used any of these products or brandsbut they are now on my radar.
I would love to try spf from the Ultra Violette range!
I am so confused, I purchased ultra violettte queen screen and every time I used it it had tiny little pilling balls in it, it was so expensive and I had to throw it out! I had only a light mosturiser under it so I’m unsure why it did this, maybe i had a bad batch?
I don’t know who this lady is nor have I heard of some of those brands. I’ve definitely heard of Ultra Violette but never tried it.
Ultra Violette is great! Would love to see them on BH.
I haven’t used this brand
Great shout out for an Aussie brand!
So many great products really like Sunscreen especially 50+ it should always be a part of our daily routine.
I haven’t tried any of these products. I’ve heard good things about The ordinary products
I have not yet tried this brand
Been meaning to try this brand
Queen Screen looks great under makeup. To me, it acts as a sunscreen and primer! WINNING! Lovely scent too.
I don’t know who she is…can someone shed some light.
