Before the couture gowns are zipped up, the lashes are glued in place and the perfectly styled hair gets its final zjooshing, arguably the most important part of any red carpet prep is already well underway.
Flying under the radar and appearing on no best dressed lists, the real star of any awards season is (in our opinion) anything and everything involved in skin preparation.

And for the majority of celebrities, this includes weeks of time-consuming and sometimes painful treatments like extractions, skin needling or peels.
But one skin prep technique that was neither lengthy nor invasive came from Oscar nominee, Carey Mulligan.

Complementing the show-stopping glow of her golden Valentino gown was Carey’s bright and flawless complexion. A result which can be partially credited to the quick pre-red carpet session she spent under her LED mask.
Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell shared a behind the scenes pic to Instagram captioned “before every red carpet, we mask”.

The LED mask from CurrentBody ($480, available here), crafted with 49 red and infrared LED bulbs, is the fast-working beauty gadget that’s quickly cementing itself as the must-have skin prep tool for any big event.
“Smooths, calms and firms. I cannot live without it. I made sure we got a little 15 minute relaxation and skin love this morning with Carey before we started glam” shared Georgie.
While LED treatments have long been popular in-salon for their effectiveness in collagen stimulation and targeting acne causing bacteria, the at-home wearable masks (while not as intense as something you’d find in a clinic) are ticking some very appealing boxes. Don’t have to leave the house? Check. Don’t have to make conversation? Check. Don’t have to get out of your pyjamas? Double check.

If you can’t get your hands on Carey’s exact one, here are some other great alternatives that are bh approved:

Have you ever tried an LED mask? If not, would you like to?
Never tried an LED mask, but I’ve heard they are good, and I’d like to try one. Bit out of my budget right now though.
That is an amazing perk!!!
Me too 😀
That would be a dream trial if one existed!
Just a little Ol Beauty Salon in SA 🙂
Ooooo where do you work??
Oh my goodness, that is very expensive! Also not completely sold that it would work.
I have used the LightStim professional one that we have a work, and also have a little cleansing device that has the LED lights on that but I would love a full faced LED mask to use at home 🙂
I am keen to try a at home LED mask, trying to find an effective one with good warranty too as I have read the Dr Dennis Gross tools don’t have a good battery life.
That’s quite an investment. Fingers crossed there may be a trial for one in the near future. (Wink, wink!) I wholeheartedly volunteer my services for the greater good.
Carey Mulligan certainly does have Flawless Skin so amazing that an LED Mask can do so much as it Smooths, calms and firms. Carey looked glowing like her beautiful gown.
woooooow that golden dress!! Woooow. Yes, have seen current body LED and had it on my wishlist…..just one day maybe will get it. Need more research done on LED before investing my time in using it.
Ahhh she’s gorgeous!
Lovely job yes 🙂 all salons are most definitely not like this.
Wow that’s expensive! And wow she is tiny!
Ooo me too, a free $660 item? sign me up! lol
Sounds like a great job to have as you get so much in return. You’re boss must be so lovely. I wonder if all salons allow this 🙂
Very gratefully we can have any beauty treatment in our own time for free I also get a discounts on our retail products x
I’ve never tried one but I’d love to!
What else do you get? I am interested now!!
It sure is 🙂
Ive never tried and LED mask but I would love to give one a go.
Not sold yet on LED benefits and the price! Phew! I noticed the enviable amount of makeup in the picture with the mask. Sponsored maybe?
I love a good microdermabrasion, Light Stim Treatment or any one of our Thalgo facials 🙂
She is glowing
Wow, she looks absolutely stunning in that dress and so so tiny!
Lucky you! What’s your favourite treatment? I’ve had an Omnilux facial a few times and I absolutely loved it but that salon closed down and I’m not sure what to try next.
She looks gorgeous and I love her movies.
Have you ever tried an LED mask?
No
If not, would you like to?
Yes, if I don’t have to pay for it
She looks lovely.
Great Gatsby esque
So elegant
Never tried an LED mask. On another note that dress Rémy me if one I used to put on my barbie doll when I was a kid.
I haven’t tried and LED mask but would love to
You never know! When I first saw the Foreo Luna, that was my dream trial and every time I saw an article on BH about it, I’d always comment the same – if you want to trial this, I volunteer! Imagine my excitement when I finally did get that trial team invite! If you put it out to the universe, the universe might just answer back. 🙂
i would love to
Ok I’m going to keep saying it then if it worked for you 😀
Thanks so much. I have my fingers crossed lol
I’m curious, but I’m also concerned that in 5 or 10 years, studies might find they’ve got health risks. Maybe I’m paranoid?
That is so cool!!
Have you tried anything that gave you adverse reaction?
Like a solarium. The risks were discovered years after.
Not me personally but some of the girls I’ve worked with have.
I welcome LED into my life! …..and that dress too!! Beautiful!
Exactly! I’ll let others be the guinea pigs, haha!
She’s got a pricey routine there, so all those items are a no for me.
Carey is cute but the routine is not for the ordinary woman.
Thanks for sharing! It’s always interesting to hear.
To clarify, nappies for a baby, not for me.
And, you can use that money for other things!!
For example, that $600 buys me 6,000 nappies!!
I’m not sure about the expensive skincare routine but I’m sold on that stunning dress.
I’m not sure if one zap from the LED mask would be enough to make Carey’s skin look amazing. From what I’ve read, the results from LED treatments usually do not become visible until you’ve used an LED device for a few months.
I’ve never heard of a Light Stim Treatment before. I’ll get Googling!!
