With a love for both science and beauty, bh member, beautystar, thought it only right to combine her two passions to create a blog that delivers the latest in beauty’s best offerings, and the details about what makes them work.
We sat her down to discover a little more about her and her blog, The Science of Beauty…
- 1. What inspires you when writing your blog?
As soon as I hear scientific claims being made by a beauty company I get all excited to research it further to find out whether the claims are true. Then I get really inspired to write about my findings. I am passionate about both beauty and science, so when the two merge I find myself getting a little manic with excitement and overwhelmed with possibility!
- 2. Do you have a particular subject area that you enjoy covering? I.e. hair, skin care. Why?
I dabble in all areas but skin care is where my expertise lies. I have done a PhD in wound healing so know the skin inside out, plus with my scientific training I am able to understand the research that has been conducted on products and can translate it back into layman’s terms. One of my science-based articles will often take me nearly a week to research and write so I like to also mix it up a bit with some quicker posts about things such as a new nail polish I have, or a make-up item that I have just bought. But I would say that 90 per cent of my posts are skin care related.
- 3. How far ahead do you work on your blog?
Each time I think of an article I would like to write about I create a draft for it, to remind me to come back to it. This can be good if I am going through some bloggers block and can’t think of anything to write about. I’ll have a look in my drafts and will often be surprised in that there is an article ¾ written that I had previously lost inspiration on that I can jump back into.
4. What do you love about blogging?
This was unexpected, but I love discovering and interacting with the blogging community. I have made so many friends both here and overseas. The blogging community is so welcoming and supportive and that came as a complete surprise.
Blogging always seemed like such an individual pursuit – typing away on your computer by yourself – but it really isn’t. After you publish an article so many people comment, whether directly on your blog or on Twitter or Facebook, and it really gets conversations started.
- 5. Describe your blog in three words.
Beauty meets science.
