Incorporating a toner into our routine is often a step we overlook. The truth is, at one point or another we’ve all wondered the same thing: do you even need to use a toner? While some may associate the post-cleansing skin care product with harsh stinging and the scent of alcohol, frankly, we think it’s a little misunderstood!
Putting their past aside, toners have redeemed themselves and they’re no longer reserved for acne-prone skin alone. Commonly regarded as an extension of the cleansing family, the humble astringent toner has evolved to target a whole range of skin concerns. For mature skin types, this equates to adding another layer of nourishing hydration.
What’s that? A toner for mature skin? Hear us out. Though some of you may still be recovering from the alcohol-heavy toners of yesteryear, we’re here to settle your apprehension. Thanks to the newly-developed formulas devoted to hydration, anti-ageing, and plumping, mature skin types are bound to find their match within our tailored list.
So, without further ado, we’ve rounded up the best toners for mature skin…
The best toners for mature skin in Australia
Clarins Hydrating Toning Lotion
We say: Enriched with aloe vera and saffron flower extracts, this hydrating toner adds an extra splash of post-cleansing hydration. The nourishing formula also promotes the natural balance of skin flora.
You say: “This Clarins Hydrating Toning Lotion is so lovely to use. It makes my skin feel fresh and clean and I do like that it doesn’t have any alcohol in it… [and] also makes my skin feel soft. I have been using it day and night before my usual moisturiser or night cream.” – Normal

Paula’s Choice Advanced Replenishing Toner
We say: This milky toner is packed with hydration-boosting goodies such as omega fatty acids and potent antioxidants. Press the formula into your skin for a visibly plumper appearance.

innisfree Jeju Orchid Skin
We say: Jeju orchid extract is this formula’s star of the show. Its rich antioxidant composition works to maintain the skin’s firmness and elasticity.
You say: “This intriguing texture breaks down to a liquid when rubbed on the skin. Kind of genius because it doesn’t instantly run out of the bottle like water onto your cotton pad… As a last step in cleansing it picks up any missed bits of makeup or dirt and provides a good base for the application of essence then moisturiser.” – Frenchy1

Skin O2 Hydrating Spritz Toner
We say: Toning has never been easier with this spritz bottle! The key ingredients hyaluronic acid, rose water and witch hazel work to hydrate the skin before serums and moisturiser.
You say: “I love this for several reasons and without a doubt it’s a five star product in my view. The scent is a florally/rosy scent that I love. It’s not a classic rose scent but definitely has a mix of that and florals…This is a dream to use over my serum and I let it settle in and then add a moisturiser. It adds extra hydration to my skin and feel just so luxurious as it hits my skin.”
