With the ever-thinning hole in the ozone layer directly above Australia, a daily sunscreen is non-negotiable. We know we need to be wearing one, but finding a sunscreen that plays well with your makeup is no mean feat. Some formulas are too greasy and your foundation slides right off, while others give your face a white cast that no amount of bronzer can undo.
We’ve rounded up 10 of our favourite foundation-friendly sunscreens that work a treat under makeup.
The Kind Sunscreen
Made right here in Australia, The Kind Sunscreen uses nine certified organic and sustainably sourced ingredients to effectively shield all skin types from the sun. Whether you’re allergic to synthetic chemicals, are breastfeeding or have sensitive skin, this gentle formula will keep your skin protected without triggering irritations.

Have you found the perfect SPF for to layer under your foundation?
La Roche Posay Anti Shine is the absolute best for oily skin. Foundation sits perfect underneath and it really helps to absorb oils throughout the day. Obsessed.
I think one of these days I should probably stop thinking too much and finally pick a sunscreen best suited for my face. The UIltraderm daily protector moisturiser is my final pick.
Lots of good picks here. I'm interested in Cancer Council Anti Pollution. Still yet to try their new formula for sensitive skin.
Good choices of sunscreen
Love the Avène sunscreen have been using it for years
I really need to try the LRP sunscreen
Have been using Roche Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF 50+ it goes on so smooth and works so well under Primer and Makeup.
Now I want to try the Dermalogica one since my skin is oily and acne prone
Hamilton face sunscreen is also very good, and is Australian made

Dermalogica sounds perfect for me.
Lately my skin only could stand for longer hours was Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50.
The Neutrogena Dry Touch is still one that I love and feel should be on this list.
I prefer to use a moisturiser with a high SPF on my face than sunscreen. Olay complete defence and Elucent anti ageing day moisturiser are both good.
I just love SPF50! Enjoying the Hamilton Everyday Face SPF50+ at the moment!
YES! This is the one I use! I I think they have a new one which does not have Oxybenzone
I really like Ultra Violette
I'm using the Sun Sense at the moment. It's fab.
I love sunscreens that give a glow
Swear by my japanese sunscreens. Never going back
I've heard good things about the La Roche-Posay Anthelios sunscreen
Your crap has been reported. Get a life!
I haven't tried any of the brands in the article. I'm using up what I have but for my next purchase I want a S/S that feels lighter (less greasy) on my face.
I am trialling Hamilton Everyday Face SPF50+ at the moment and it ticks all the boxes for me, its so comfortable to wear with a great finish.
I will look out for the Natio moisturiser, hate the feel of sunscreens Raluca, thanks for the recommendation:)
I love avene products so love this one too.
Step away from the Dermalogica 2663anne! It's mine all mine!!!
Well I guess I can share with you. 🙂
I find the LaRoche Posay one great for my skin and easy to apply. The dermatologist recommended it
I've tried a lot of SPF and have narrowed it down to a few that don't break me out. My favourite at the moment is the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Fluid SPF50. Sits really well under my makeup.
I find mineral powder foundation works on top of any sunscreen. I've used a tinted sunscreen by Hawaiian Tropic & I didn't need to wear foundation. The same goes for Invisible Zinc tinted, which I prefer because it's made in Australia.
I love their products – I use their BB Cream that is also 50+
My favourite sunscreen for my face hands down is Ultraceuticals 🙂
La Roche-Posay Anthelios came highly recommended and has been a pleasure to wear – long wearing and doesn't sting the eyes. It sits well under makeup, though could be a little more hydrating.
Natio Daily Defence Face Moisturiser with SPF 50 is my favourite.
Can never go wrong with LRP and Avene.
Hawaiian Tropic smells great, I rarely wear foundation so it how it works with that isn't an issue for me. I'm currently using a Hamilton sunscreen.
I love Hamilton face sunscreen, it’s one of the few that doesn’t leave my face extremely oily
I can't believe the Hamilton's Everyday Face SPF 50+ that we were so lucky to receive in the latest Discovery Bag isn't featured. It is brilliant.
**Hayley,** I'd have said exactly the same thing before trialing the Hamilton's Everyday Face SPF 50+ which came with the Discovery Bag. It's brilliant, spreads easily and well, feels great and makeup stays perfect. I found I needed to apply it 20 minutes before completing my makeup then the result is as good as I've had.
It would be helpful if some products came in not too expensive trial sizes.

…i did it by accident though just because I forgot and I just had a ridiculously busy morning,
I have to admit it's nice to have a break – rarely do I do that but I did today!
yeh caitmay that La Roche Posay one is a fave of mine too.
I have the Natio one on hand. I need to use it more I think.
Happily using skinceuticals right now — there's so many great ones today yay!
You can never go with LRP sunscreens.
Right now I’m using Reef and I love it. I’m not using a lot of makeup with it.
Yes and more articles about sun protection please Beauty Heaven.
Use the Avene sunscreen. It’s awesome.
Most tend to be too thick and/or greasy for me so it’s hard to layer it with makeup
