What ingredients should you look for in a dry skin moisturiser?
If your skin is perpetually dry and/or dehydrated, trying to find the holy grail moisturiser that actually does what it says on the pack can be tough. So, it’s best to keep your eyes peeled for hard-hitting hydrating ingredients instead. The best for dry skin? Glycerine, shea butter, hyaluronic acid, urea and niacinamide.

What is your favourite moisturiser for dry skin?
Luckily I don’t suffer from dry skin but I am prone to breakouts
Same here
That’s my problem, too. I’m 55! Will I ever “outgrow” them? Haha!
I need to give my skin more hydration and even drink more water too
I struggle to drink water and I know I should.
I’m always shocked when I hear that people can’t manage to drink enough water. I drink about 4L a day! It’s not a medical condition – my sister & I have drunk buckets of water since childhood. If I got lost in the desert, there’s no way I’d survive for 3 days, haha!
Haha, I’m the same. I regularly drink 3L a day but I was the first one to get heat stroke when out hiking and no one listened to my advice that we needed more water and I had to share my rations with everyone. I think your body gets accustomed to being well hydrated

Include antioxidants and healthy fats in your diet and if you have dry skin, apply moisturiser on damp skin.
Glycerin is the bomb!
My skin gets much drier in the winter, a heavier moisturiser is a must
Urederm is brilliant.
I’m using the La Roche Posay Riche at the moment, it’s really good.
My skin gets quite dry during the winter so I do have to change the skincare products.
I love to douse up on richer products overnight because I love amping up my hydration now I’m a little bit older than what I used to be. ♥
Go To products are lovely.
I agree. I have The Removalist clay mask. It smells absolutely divine too.
I like that there are a few affordable options included in this list. I love La Roche Posay products
Do not have dry skin luckily. But love now good yummy creamy moisturizers.
I think my skin is dehydrated rather than dry – I don’t get flaking etc. So I should drink (lots) more water – it’s always a plan but I’m not so good at implementing it.
Dry skin is a major concern for me and I do like the look of some of these options – I like the different price options too. Thank You
I don’t have dry skin but I’d like to try one of esmi skin minerals new moisturisers.
I have tried a lot of moisturizers, but surprisingly none of these. I have very dry skin in winter and am always looking for products that work well for me. I will give some of these a try when my current products run out.
No dry skin for me
Looks like some good choices here.
I don’t tend to have dry skin on my face, haven’t given any of these a go
I go through heaps of moisturisers but I haven’t tried any of the mentioned products.
My skin can get dry, but if i overload it it breaks out!
i like richer products at night
CeraVe is my favourite. It’s so cheap and versatile!
Dry skin is a concern, great products here some I have tried and others I look forward to giving them a go. Thanks bh! a very helpful and informative read.
I’ve saved this article into my favourites folder. Very helpful for my dry skin to have product suggestions.
Wow the Ultraceuticals one is so expensive.
I have tried the Go To very useful face cream, it is okay.
I’m definitely tending to dryer skin as I age. A good moisturiser is critical.
Interesting
My timing has tended to be off to start using a new moisturiser in time or during winter – may make some changes this winter
None are brands I’ve ever tried.
Love Cetaphil Optimal Hydration but I don’t love the container.
Love Cetaphil Optimal H-y-d-r-a-t-i-o-n but I don’t like the container.
Getting over the comment moderation!
Me too! I’ve currently got 3 comments pending moderation – 1 on this article. I didn’t use any of the known trigger words! Why?
With you on that. Seriously annoying and unfair on us
Same same. Forums are worse. Barely can post anything now.
I do find my skin feeling dry in winter, I’m sure it’s the cold wind that does it. I’m using the Cetaphil moisturiser at the moment and I have used (and liked) the la Roche posay one in the past.
I’ve tried the Go-To… the scent is lovely, but it was a tad bit too oily for me.
Will definitely be trying the Dermal Therapy cream. Thanks BH!
I am in my 70’s and have had dry skin all my life, I try to use all the right thing, never going out in the hot sun without some kind of protection (I live in Perth WA! and I grew up in Africa) and in winter I use everything I can lay my hands on to help my dry skin but nothing much clears it up.I use only dry skin products to help but I think its now a bit too late for me.But heaven help me I will keep on trying anything.
I have very dry skin. One thing that helps me is applying a balm on top of my lotion. So lotion first and then a small amount of balm This is the one I use. I buy it in Woolies when it’s on sale. It helps to seal in the moisture and my skin has responded well. https://www.aveeno.com.au/products/body/dermexa-fast-long-lasting-balm
Yeah nice one BH, I try to be helpful and cop a mod
It’s never too late Shaper. I think it’s great to try new products.
I would like to try La Roche Posay Facial moisturiser.
Definitely, great product suggestions. I don’t have severe dry skin but if i dont moisturise my skin wont be happy about it
There are a couple of brands on this list that I haven’t tried yet. So far my favourite has to be Olay mainly because it is so light and absorbs quickly.
I am currently using and loving Goop glow moisturising lotion.
Natio moisturizers are quite good, tried few of them.
Good price range here. Thanks
Olay Moisturiser is the BOMB!!! Absolutely amazing and non-greasy!
Quite a varied range there in price.
I’d never heard of amla berries, so I Googled – they’re Indian gooseberries!
That’s interesting. Haven’t heard of them either.
No dry skin here. Love lately moistuirsers though! Fave currently is L’Occitane divine immortelle.
I tend to go for serums as they work better for my skin type
I really like the Natio Daily Defence Face Moisturiser SPF 50+ and would like to try the Go-To and esmi moisturisers next.
Gosh, I just love the idea of using the old faithfuls. La Roche Posay and Cetaphil – they do the job and don’t irritate!
Yes lovely products
It’s good to see some affordable options from Chemist Warehouse.
