The best exfoliants for sensitive skin in Australia

Synergie Skin Luciderm

We say: This acid-free serum exfoliator takes the scrubbing and stinging out of exfoliation. Designed with sensitive skin in mind, enzymes sit on the skin to eat away at dead skin cells on the surface.

Avène Gentle Exfoliating Gel

We say: This gel-based exfoliant contains biodegradable cellulose and jojoba wax beads to gently slough away flaky skin. Thanks to the addition of Avène’s signature thermal spring water plus niacinamide, the skin’s barrier remains supported and strong.

You say: “I have used the Avene Gentle Exfoliating Gel for about three months now and it is a lovely product for my type of sensitive skin. The exfoliating beads are very gentle and I do prefer this texture, especially around my nose area where it can get a bit dry. I would recommend this product if you definitely want to use a gentle exfoliator for the face that isn’t harsh and doesn’t tighten your skin.” – Faye Bloom

Aspect Skincare Fruit Enzyme Mask

We say: Enzyme exfoliants are perfect for sensitive skin types. In a matter of minutes, this enzyme mask will gently break down impurities and dead skin cells as it hydrates and calms.

You say: “As someone who can “occasionally” overdo it exfoliating with actives this has become a bit of a saving grace product, I can get the exfoliation I want without running the risk overdoing it. Feeling the dead skin ball up is a lot of fun. I would recommend allowing the mask to sit on your face for 30 seconds or so after initial application & then rubbing it in, it seems to work better than just rubbing the whole time.”

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

We say: Activate this rice-based powder with water to turn it into an exfoliating milk. The formulation has been enriched with enzymes and salicylic acid to exfoliate, as a blend of white tea and licorice will help to balance uneven skin tone.

$105 at Dermalogica

E.S.K Gentle Glow PHA Serum

We say: Evidence Skincare’s newly-launched PHA (polyhydroxy acid) serum utilises mild yet effective ingredients to gently slough away dead skin cells without causing irritation. In case you weren’t aware, unlike a traditional chemical exfoliant, PHAs are suitable for sensitive skin.

  1. I do have sensitive skin (unfortunately) & have found 2 exfoliants that work for me: a physical one from Mukti Organics & a lactic acid/fruit enzymes combo from Goldfaden MD. Neither of them are cheap, but they both work well for me provided I don’t go overboard.
