TRUE: Not all wrinkles are the same
Did you know that wrinkles fall into two categories?
Expressive wrinkles—also called dynamic wrinkles are formed by every day facial expressions like winking, smiling or frowning.
Whereas static wrinkles are formed as we get older and we experience a decrease in the natural substances that keep skin firm, smooth and plump. As our skin loses its natural elasticity and with repetitive muscle contractions we begin to form static wrinkles and folds.
FALSE: Women get anti-wrinkle treatments to look good for other people
According to recent market research, the main reasons cited by the women surveyed for getting anti-wrinkle treatments were to minimise/reduce wrinkles (68 per cent) and to feel better about themselves (55 per cent). Of these women, the majority (87 per cent) said the treatments either helped them look younger or feel more confident.
According to the same report, almost one in five Australian women have used at least one type of cosmetic beauty treatment in the past year, including anti-wrinkle injections, dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser skin treatments.
BIZARRE: Triangles hold the key to youth
Our faces may be round but it seems the key ‘shape’ to youth is the triangle. According to Sydney-based cosmetic surgeon, Dr Joseph Ajaka, we start to lose the ‘triangle of youth’ around our 40s. The jawline widens as the face sags and the cheeks start deflating and narrowing due to a loss of skin volume.
