In an industry as pervasive as beauty, ageing is a hot topic. For people like Anne Hathaway, however, it’s no big deal.
While we all, inevitably, grow older, Anne has spoken up on the stigma surrounding the natural process.
In an interview with PEOPLE, the Oscar-winning actress said: “Ageing is just another word for living. And what you do with it from there is personal and up to you.”
“I feel great — I feel better than I did in my twenties because I’m taking much better care of myself,” she continued.
As a mum of two, she also provided solace to fellow mothers out there by addressing her learned experience with pregnancy recovery – moreover, the unrealistic expectations surrounding the postpartum ‘snap back’.
“People don’t talk about this and it really made me feel better when I found out about it. It takes three years for your body to fully recover from a pregnancy. I didn’t snap back. I want to be very, very clear about that.”
“With my second, it took every minute of those three years. Let your body be a body. There’s nowhere to get to. It’s just now. Be present and take care of yourself and don’t set expectations.”
These words certainly ring true when it comes to the ageing stigma – which is, perhaps, why Anne is so passionate about self-care nowadays.
Whilst she’s a known advocate for inner wellbeing, the actress doesn’t shy away from a more tangible outer wellbeing moment. For Anne, this means skin care.
As a new ambassador for Shiseido, she told PEOPLE: “I’m really happy to have been exposed to Shiseido’s Vital Perfection [line]. I didn’t know there was skin care specifically designed for skin in its fifth decade. I’m thrilled to have that extra bit of support.”
Ultimately, Anne emphasises the significance of self-care – no matter what stage of life one is in. Feeling “better than [she] did in [her] twenties”, her perspective on wellbeing and health is surely one that many can relate to.

Yes, I do like her philosophy.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I would have liked if the article mentioned her age. In her fifth decade is’nt very specific.

It’s a good philosophy, but a bit hard to hold on to when things start literally falling apart.
She is ageless.
I like how she has kept ageing as a personal process.
Ageing is living. Ageism is all about discrimination.
