10 Celebrities Who Struggle With Acne

Celebrities with acne: They may have access to the best spot treatments money can buy, but the reality is that even the rich and famous suffer from serious skin woes.

And while bh isn’t interested in ‘calling out’ these struggling celebs, we think it’s pretty powerful (not to mention reassuring for us mere mortals) when they open up about their experiences with less-than-perfect skin.

Turns out, they know the truth about blind pimples as well as we do…

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

“My skin is acne-prone, so it’s a moving target,” Rosie Huntington-Whiteley revealed in an interview with Net-A-Porter. To keep her breakouts under control, she relies on LED therapy, and will often “sneak off to the bedroom to lie under the red and blue lights to tackle acne and heal any scars”. The mum-of-one (and currently pregnant with her second) beauty founder also credited “ice cubes wrapped in gauze” as a good way to “reduce puffiness and acne,” as well as Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion ($24, MECCA) as an effective spot treatment.

Katy Perry

Suffering from hormonal acne for years, Katy Perry has been a long-time brand ambassador for Proactiv (she swears by Proactiv® 3-Step Kit). Speaking to Cosmo US, the singer reflected on her struggle with acne scars: “One of my insecurities is that I have acne scars. I’m self-conscious about that, so sometimes I wear too much makeup to cover them up. When you suffer with blemishes, you don’t feel very free.”

Bella Thorne

Bella Thorne has struggled with cystic acne on and off for years.  Last year she sat down with Vogue and opened up about the stereotypes associated with her skin issues, saying she’s labelled as a wild child and partier because of how tired her skin looks without makeup.

Lili Reinhardt

The Riverdale star suffers from cystic acne. She speaks openly about her battle and often shares selfies on social media sporting spot treatments and face masks. Reinhardt also opted to do her own makeup when filming Riverdale season 3 because of her acne.

Kendall Jenner

Kendall knows all too well the negative impact that skin issues can have on a girl’s self-confidence, making headlines last year for proudly sporting her acne at The 2018 Golden Globe awards. She recently revealed that she’s the new spokesperson for Proactiv and is excited to share her skincare journey with others who suffer from acne.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus suffered from bad skin as a teen, and credits her now-clear complexion to the help of professionals. “Let professionals do it and don’t start getting in there and giving yourself scars,” she told The Cut.

Madeline Petsch

Lili Reinhardt isn’t the only Riverdale beauty with skin woes! Madeline Petsch struggled with such bad acne on her forehead while shooting season 1, that it had to be airbrushed out of every shot. She recently told People.com that she swears by Bioré Baking Sode Acne Cleansing Scrub to help keep her breakouts at bay.

Kaley Cuoco

Kaley Kuoco struggled with acne as a teen, which she admits was difficult to deal with in the limelight. But the former Proactiv spokesperson has her beauty team to thank for her now-flawless complexion and swears by wearing SPF on her face every day. bh recommends Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Clear Face Lotion SPF30 for acne-prone skin. Lorde

Lorde has never tried to hide her acne. She famously pointed out some sneaky photoshopping of her skin, causing a stir on Twitter: “I find this curious – two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real, remember, flaws are ok :-)”. She also posted a video to social media in 2018 hilariously calling out things you should not say to someone who suffers from acne.

Zendaya

Zendaya speaks openly about her hormonal acne struggles — including on her face and body. She often shares information and remedies on her blog and across social media. She told Twist magazine, “When you have chest and back acne, it really makes you feel self-conscious and you have to be careful about what you wear so that it doesn’t show.”

Emma Stone

Emma Stone has suffered from both stress-related and hormonal acne throughout her teens and early 20s. In fact, her skin had to be video-airbrushed for her movie, Easy A. When faced with a serious breakout, Stone heads straight to her dermatologist for a cortisone shot.

Can you relate to any of these celebrities? What’s your biggest skin care woe?

  1. I’m 35 and still get hormonal breakouts on my jaw, not bad but at 35 I thought I would have been well past it. It’s ok though there’s worse things in life and great skincare, treatments and fresh ideas always help. 💗🌸💫

  2. I used to struggle from really bad acne in my 20s. But like Miley said I got the Professionals involved. Dermatologist + Medication = Good Skin.
Now I suffer from dehydration because of my meds. Drink lots of water & use lots of moisturisers & masks but still need some more assistance.

  3. I’ve seen how persistent acne is with my daughter. She is always trying new products and routines to reduce her breakouts. It can look quite promising for a time, and then back to square one.

  4. Acne is something that you should not be ashamed about, and I am excited to see it become more normalized in the news and amongst people we see as ‘perfect’! You are all BEAUTIFUL!

  5. Oh i can totally relate, before graduating from high school, my acne got really bad started coming out on my back.. so horrible. But I took accutane and it was a blessing. I get the odd period pimples or stress pimples or wrong skin care use that irritates my skin

  6. DermalMD Acne Serum helps clear up the more cystic and large acne on my face! I have had issues since stopping my birth control about a year ago with adult acne (I’m 25!). This keeps it in check. I’ve noticed I’m still getting tiny pimples and clogged pores but this really has helped.
