5 of the best acne-fighting foods

When a pimple decides to rear its ugly head, many of us do anything we can to stop it in it’s tracks. From cleansers that rid our skin of pimple-causing bacteria to targeted acne treatments, we’ll try anything to make that zit do a disappearing act ASAP!

But what if you could treat pimples from the inside out before they even begin forming? And, better yet, with delicious, healthy foods that’ll have your skin glowing from their nourishing goodness?

Associate Professor at The Dermatology Institute of Victoria, Greg Goodman, talks us through the top five pimple-fighting foods you need to stock up on right now.

Tomatoes

“Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants that may have a role in soothing inflamed skin. They are also rich in a vitamin A complex called Lycopene which aids in unblocking trapped sebum in the pores.”

Green tea

“Green tea is part of a large tea family including black, green and white tea, all of which have anti inflammatory properties and are potent antioxidants. Green tea can also be used in skin care products to treat acne topically.”

Salmon

“Salmon is extremely rich in both vitamin A and good fats that are also anti inflammatory, making salmon arguably the healthiest food going around for your skin.”

Sweet potatoes

“Sweet potatoes are a mega source for pimple-unblocking and anti inflammatory vitamin A. Inflammation is a very early part of acne production, which usually happens before the pore becomes blocked.”

Oysters

“Oysters are rich in zinc and vitamin A, which are two common agents used by Dermatologists to treat acne. As a bonus, they are low in calories as well!”
