While I often covet classic beauty looks, I’m also a big believer in trying out wearable new beauty trends every now and then.
Even if it’s something as subtle as a hyped up skin serum, or a slightly more modern hairstyle, life’s too short to stick to the same old routine, day in, day out.
It’s time to shake things up with your beauty and health. Go on, I dare you…

Retro-themed workouts
Not exactly excited about exercise? Well there’s a new fitness fad in town, and it’s 50 times funner than a standard gym sesh (no offence, gym junkies). Retro-themed workouts have spread like wildfire – even Jazzercise is making a comeback.
The bh team got on board recently with a very colourful aerobic workout at Retrosweat in Sydney. Their favourite part? The compulsory 80s attire, of course…
Flow After Dark Silent Yoga Disco is also proving popular, with upcoming events in Sydney and Melbourne seeing yogis do their downward dog to disco music pumping through headphones that glow in the dark. It’s exercise with a twist (literally)!

Nude hair
You probably already share bh’s love for nude make-up (srsly, we’re obsessed), but have you ever heard of nude as a hair colour? Featuring an even amount of both warm and cool tones, the colours cancel each other out to create a neutral, nude shade. The end result? A stunningly subtle hybrid of honey blonde and pearl-ish, cooler colours!
The best thing about this trend is that it looks great with all complexions. Don’t believe me? Speaking to cosmopolitan.co.uk, Senior Colorist at Eva Scrivo Salons Meri Kate O’Connor says most people are born with neutral-coloured hair, which means you may not need to colour your mane at all! You will need to up the shine factor though, to keep your nude locks looking fresh and vibrant.

Bubble masks
Bubble masks have officially taken over Instagram, and it’s little wonder – they’re so photogenic! The best part? This face mask trend isn’t just aesthetically exciting. The foaming action has a purpose: to deeply cleanse away impurities and penetrate the skin with active ingredients.
Granted, some versions have been around for a while now (think Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Foaming Mask, approx $80, marksandspencer.com), but we’re seeing more and more popping (or should I say, bubbling) up.

Eye-lighting
This anti-tiredness trick has been around for yonks, but we’ve been seeing it more and more on the runway, red carpet and social media lately (and now it has an irresistible new name!). The technique involves highlighting or strobing the inner corners of your eyes to brighten any darkness, using either cream eyeshadow or highlighter.
We’ve also seen eye-lighting extended to underneath the inner eye area. You can apply your highlight using your fingers, or with a thin pencil brush. Just one tip: to avoid looking like a disco ball, apply a little product to start with and build it up gradually.
