Here at beautyheaven, we love beauty products. I mean, duh, it’s what we do. But there are certain areas in our beauty routines that we prioritise more than others. It’s different for all of us and those areas have become a part of our signature beauty look.
For example, bh’s Beth would never skimp on her skin care regime, and the proof is in her glowing complexion. bh’s Kate is a master at liquid eyeliner, while bh’s Sophie’s look is all about lashes. And you can always count on bh’s Michelle’s blonde locks to be perfectly polished.
This month, we’ve reviewed four outstanding products that have become our daily stylish essentials, including a false eyelash applicator, a hair styling mousse, a liquid eyeliner, and a nourishing facial oil.
1000 Hour Eyelash Applicator
bh’s Sophie says:
I LOVE lashes. I’m a three coats of mascara or more kinda girl. I used to have eyelash extensions and I absolutely loved how thick and luscious my lashes were, but these days I’ve gone back to applying falsies. False eyelashes are fantastic for when you want to look extra glamorous for a special occasion. Most people shy away from falsies because they think the whole process is too complicated and time consuming, but I disagree! With practice, you’ll be batting a fresh pair of eyelashes in minutes.
When I first tried the 1000 Hour Eyelash Applicator I wasn’t expecting it to be that helpful. Boy, was I wrong! This little tool makes applying false eyelashes so quick and easy. I was already pretty swift at applying a pair of lashes, but the applicator makes the whole process simpler. It gives you that extra bit of control and grip, and is perfect if you’re a little hesitant about using tweezers near your eyes. I would recommend the applicator to anyone who wants to adding false eyelashes into their makeup routine. Even beginners will be surprised at how uncomplicated applying a pair of falsies can be!
JUSTICE Professional Styling Mousse
bh’s Michelle says:
I grew up in the 1980s so the idea of hair mousse has always conjured up memories of Bon Jovi’s Sydney tour, circa ’89. In other words: hair that’s big, crunchy and teased to within an inch of its life. But while this might have been a highpoint in Bon Jovi’s history, hair mousse has fortunately evolved to be miles ahead and these days, it’s ideal for shaping and holding hair, without leaving it feeling sticky or crunchy.
I apply this one to freshly washed hair before blow-drying and it makes styling a whole lot easier. My hair is fairly fine but also very unruly, so I need a product that smoothes out the stubborn kinks without making it feel too weighed down. The argan-oil-based formula of this mousse works a treat, leaving my hair feeling much softer and smoother than usual, but without the dreaded limpness. And as a bonus, my blowdry always lasts particularly well after using it and even my second-day hair is easier to style.
Sumita Liquid Eyeliner
bh’s Kate says:
“I first starting wearing liquid eyeliner when I was 16 and I fell in love. Since then I’ve used all sorts of eyeliner (pencil, liquid and gel) and created all sorts of eye looks (subtle wing, dramatics wings, thin lines, thick lines) – so I consider myself a bit of an eyeliner expert. After using gel-based formulas for the last few years, I was eager to trial the Sumita Liquid Eyeliner in black and get back to my first liner love – the liquid eyeliner.
It comes in a compact, easy-to-use pot with a small brush that allows for precise application. I applied it both with and without eyeshadow and found that it glided on easily in a rich black colour without streaking, which is definitely an issue I’ve had with liquid eyeliner in the past. I also didn’t find it to be too runny or clumpy and it dried quickly. The eyeliner stayed on all day and didn’t budge, but I found it easy enough to remove with micellar water at night. It did transfer slightly onto my eye crease when I was wearing a cream highlighter on my brow bone, so I do think that it would be better paired with either a naked eye or shadow rather than cream formulas. But I really love the gold packaging and how luxe it looks on my bathroom cabinet! Overall I really loved this eyeliner and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a long-lasting everyday liner.”
Burt’s Bees Complete Nourishing Facial Oil
bh’s Beth says:
When I squeezed out the first drop of this amazing face oil, I was immediately transported to a luxurious day spa. The smell is incredible – it’s strong, herbal and completely invigorating. The fact that I loved the scent so much surprised me, as usually I’m wary of strong scents! Now to the formula – it’s easy to apply using the tips of the fingers, and I found it spreads over the face more easily if you rub the oil between your fingertips to warm it first before applying to your face. It absorbs relatively quickly as long as you use just the recommended 2-3 drops – the dropper applicator makes this easy to measure.
Lately I’ve been noticing my skin is a bit dehydrated, which has led to a terrible combo skin concern of rough, dry cheeks and an oily t-zone that comes into its own mid-afternoon. Since using this face oil for four weeks, I still see that oily sheen occasionally, but not nearly as often as I used to. My skin definitely looks and feels more soft, supple and moisturised, and my cheeks feel much smoother. When I use the oil in conjunction with my regular moisturiser, the effect is amplified – it feels as though my skin is much more nourished and cared for. When it comes to skin care I’m all about prevention, and I’m pretty sure that with continued use, this product would reduce the extent of any premature ageing that’s in the pipeline.
