You’ve probably used a BB cream before, but have you tried a CC cream yet? Like their popular predecessor the BB cream, the CC cream first found fame in Korea, namely because of their ability to also tackle problematic skin issues and target specific skin concerns. And ever since we figured out how to use CC cream, we’ve fallen for them. Hard.
Haven’t heard of CC creams? Want to know what they are, what they can do for your skin, and where you can find the best CC cream for your makeup bag? I thought so.

What is a CC cream?
The two Cs stands for Colour Corrector or Complexion Corrector, which specifies this product’s ability to target specific skin issues like covering and treating sallow skin and other skin discolourations like pimples and age spots. Most variations contain light reflecting properties to help minimise and neutralise redness in the skin, and they also provide full, foundation-like coverage. Despite said full coverage, their formulas are lightweight and buildable, which means you can layer on as much or as little product as your skin requires. Many also include skin-brightening properties (read: vitamin C) and skin-plumping peptides in their formulation, as well as antioxidants to soften fine lines and treat deeper wrinkles.
How does a CC cream differ from a BB cream?
CC creams are best for those with less than perfect skin, really. If you suffer from dark spots, wrinkles, redness or dull skin, the skin care treating elements of CCs will specifically target these issues, giving you a better complexion over time. BB creams are fantastic for those who already own non-problematic skin, and wish to use a multi-tasking product that provides sheer coverage, sun protection and skin hydration. Think of a CC cream as the more gutsy of the two; kind of like a new and improved BB cream.
How do I use a CC cream?
Like BBs, primers and other make-up bases, CC creams are applied after your daily facial moisturiser and before your foundation. However, if your CC cream is top-notch when it comes to covering redness, imperfections and evening out your skin tone, feel free to ditch the foundation altogether. Oily skin sufferers will most likely require a light dusting of translucent powder over their t-zone, but normal skin types should also follow suit to ensure long-lasting coverage.
