The Best Crease-Free Concealers For Mature Skin

Our skin changes as we age. Fact. And what this means for our makeup is that the concealer that cemented a spot in our routine in high school might not be the best fit for our current complexion.

Despite religiously applying a hyaluronic acid serum, our skin will inevitably become drier as we get older. And despite our best efforts, no amount of retinol will allow us to completely escape the fine lines and wrinkles from setting in.

So, while we can’t escape our skin’s change in texture and the persistent age spots that continue to pop up, we can avoid our makeup from sinking into our fine lines. It’s time to reconsider the product you’re using.

How do you keep concealer from settling into wrinkles?

If you’ve ever felt like your concealer is masking your dark circles but is highlighting your fine lines at the same time, it’s time to reconsider. As a general rule, avoid full coverage, matte concealers. Instead, look for lightweight, hydrating formulations that will sit comfortably on the skin. You can also set your concealer up for success by prepping with eye serum – the No7 Future Renew™ Eye Serum ($44.99 at Priceline) is great for boosting hydration and enhancing smoothness pre-concealer.

What are the best concealers for mature skin?

COVERGIRL Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer

We say: Infused with coconut milk and aloe extract, this vegan formulation will coat the skin in a nourishing wash of colour as it hydrates and blurs imperfections. As far as drugstore concealers go, this one’s a winner.

You say: “No caking and very minimal amount of creasing. Covers my eyebags perfectly without looking super heavy. Easy to blend with either your fingers or a damp sponge. It is hydrating and lightweight, a lot of concealers tend to be too drying for me or the undertone is off.” – Katie08

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat

We say: Lightly brush away imperfections with Yves Saint Laurent’s best-selling concealing (and illuminating) wand. Ideal for fading pigmentation and creating the appearance of an even skin tone, this is a cult-favourite for a reason.

You say: “The skin under my eyes, above and around look refreshed and illuminated after using this concealer. The skin stays hydrated and looks just as good when I am taking it off as when I applied it. Hands down the best concealer I have used to this day and will continue to use it.” – Saffy86

Kosas Revealer Concealer

Due to its popularity among Gen Z, it might come as a surprise to learn that the Kosas concealer formulation is incredibly well suited for mature skin types. Infused with caffeine, peptides and hyaluronic acid, the creamy concealer won’t sink into creases, flake or cake.

  1. Glad I come across this article. I been thinking about trying other concealers. I own one from a brand not listed that is decent at helping wrinkles appear less visible, but the colour pigment is not strong enough.

  2. My easy way to test foundations and concealer. (disclaimer : I have not used a concealer for many years)
Dab with a finger onto your knuckles. This will show how well it covers redness (or not!) You will also easily see how it performs over lines. All this without ruining your current makeup!

  3. I watch lots of YouTube videos and everyone uses a concealer under their eyes. However, I can never see anything glaringly obvious that needs concealing. Maybe it would be different if I saw these people in real life. I am almost sixty and I just use foundation under my eyes.
