If you’re anything like me, you’re guilty of sticking to the same old colour palette when it comes to your beauty look.
Whether you’re a red lip queen, blonde baby or bronzed goddess, it’s all too easy to go with what you know.
But the time has come to shake things up with these new summer beauty trends. The festive season is about to kick off (*yippee*) and a celebratory colour injection/pop of colour is in order.
Not sure where to start? These hues will take your summer party look from ‘fine’ to ‘phenomenal’…
#SUNSETHAIR
#SunsetHair has taken Instagram by storm, and if you ask us, it’s a fitting ‘do for December (the sun setting, the end of the year, et cetera). Not keen on a permanent hair colour change? You can achieve a subtler, one-night-only effect using hair chalk (try Fudge URBAN Hair Chalk in ‘Red Hot Pepper’ or Scunci Hair Chalk in ‘Hot Pink’).
The best thing about this look? It works on all hair colours – especially redheads, who are already halfway there!
THE NEW RED LIP
Love a classic red lip? Mix it with a hint of pink for a fresh, flirty and most importantly, on-trend update. Take inspiration from Mila Kunis and Jessica Alba:
Divine, amirite?! To pull this one off, take a barely-there approach to the rest of your make-up and let your raspberry lips take centre stage. Try M.A.C Lipstick in ‘Relentlessly Red’ or, for a slightly subtler take, Natio Blushing Bloom Rich Lip Colour in ‘Pomegranate’.
Oh, and nothing looks better against a punchy pout than dazzling, white teeth. Colgate Optic White Express Paste will help you on your way to a brighter smile.
GOLD TRESSES
Whether it’s with hair tattoos or DIY gold leaf hair, adding a touch of gold to your tresses is a sophisticated way to bring in the New Year.
Alternatively, we can’t go past a glamorous gold hair accessory, à la Amber Heard (below). We love the Lady Jayne Mesh Headband (especially with an ethereal updo).

GLOWING SKIN
Not game to guild your tresses? Gold make-up is just as gorgeous – be it in the form of some shimmery highlighter on your cheekbones, rose gold eyeshadow or even gold-flecked lipstick.
Before you begin, prime your skin with a fast-absorbing face oil such as Physicians Formula Argan Wear Ultra-Nourishing Argan Oil. This will give your skin a natural glow and help your make-up go on smoothly.
Next, sweep some highlighter diagonally along the top of your cheekbones, just under your brow bone and above the crease in your eyelid (try Australis Cosmetics Mineral Highlights in ‘Gold’) using a fluffy brush.
If you want to take it up a notch, add either a metallic eyeshadow (we love Klara Cosmetics Shimmer Eyeshadow Rose Gold Collection in ‘Rose Gold Nude’) or a gold-flecked lippie such as Avon Ultra Colour Rich 24K Lipstick (which is formulated with pure 24 karat gold).
NEW NAIL COLOURS
If I had to suggest one New Year’s beauty resolution, it would be to give those staple red and pink polishes a rest and experiment with blue and green hues. A deep, forest green such as Sea Siren Seaweed nail polish is fresh and unexpected and looks fab with a floral maxi dress for day.
When the sun goes down, switch to a deep, shimmery blue à la Costello Tagliapietra (try GlazeMe™ Colour Coats in ‘Ocean Queen’).
Which of these colour trends do you like the most? What’s your ultimate summer beauty look?
I love the metallic blue nails, they look great. The glowing skin trend is another I like, never goes out of fashion.
