6 clever tricks to enhance your spring racing beauty look

Spring racing season is upon us! And no matter if you head to the track on the regular, or are making an appearance for the first time this year, one thing is for sure – you want to look the part. We all know your beauty look is just as important as finding the right frock and fascinator, and chances are, you’ve already decided on the vibe you’re going for. So instead of messing with your plans, we thought we’d give you some handy tips on how to make sure that whatever look you choose – whether it’s bronzed and shimmery or pretty and feminine – will make you look like a solid 10. PS. To the non-race goers, these can be applied to any situation or event, so please feel free to read on!

ENHANCE YOUR SKIN

You’re in for a long day, and with the Australian temperatures steadily rising in the lead-up to summer, the combination of time and heat could spell disaster for your foundation. Unless you start with a primer, of course. Let your morning moisturiser settle into your skin, and then lightly dot some primer around your face. Rub the formula in, making sure to cover up to your temples and down to your jawline. Follow with foundation and you’re good to go!If you want to take your priming a step further, choose one that will help to troubleshoot a problem area – like an oily T-zone, enlarged pores, or a dull complexion. For those prone to shine after a few hours of foundation wear, go for a mattifying primer:

ENHANCE YOUR BROWS

For a strong brow game, a quick brush and a little gel (tinted for serious brow power or clear for a soft touch) will do wonders, and complement whatever beauty look you choose. Why a gel over a brow pencil or powder? Well, the gel formulation will hold your brows in place for a lot longer, and if you choose one that looks like a mascara, you can brush and style your brows into place in one swift movement.

ENHANCE YOUR EYESHADOW

Does your wonderfully pigmented eyeshadow ever look less-than-impressive after a few hours? You probably need an eyeshadow primer. Not only can it help to hold the colour in place for the day (or night), but it can also keep your eyelids from getting too oily after a few hours (which is one of the biggest causes of eyeshadow slippage), and make your eyeshadow colour stand out.

ENHANCE YOUR LASHES

Finding the right mascara for your lashes will go a long way in making your eyes pop, but if you’re looking for extra oomph, don’t forget to curl them. For extra hold of the curl, warm up your eyelash curler by placing it under your hairdryer for a minute  – just make sure to test the heat before putting it near your eyes! And if you really want to amp up your lash look, pop some individual lashes at the outer corners of your eyes. ENHANCE YOUR LIPS

Whether your finish off your race day make-up look with a vibrant red, a popping pink, a pretty coral, or an always-flattering nude, the best thing you can do to keep the colour looking fierce all day is to line your lips first with a lip liner. The extra step can help to prevent feathering as the hours wear on, plus, some lip liners act as a primer, too. While it’s best to opt for a lip liner that matches your lipstick, you can use a universal shade like the ones below:

Try this: apply one coat of the lipstick, press your lips together, and then blot with a tissue. Repeat twice more. Oh, and another clever way to enhance your lip colour? Whiter, brighter teeth. Colgate Optic White Express White will brighten up your pearlers after three days of use, so use it in the lead-up to race day (or your big event).

ENHANCE YOUR ‘DO

Volume can make or break a race day hair look, especially if you’re going fascinator-free (or you’re wearing one of those cute clip-in mini tophats). If your hair is already dry, dust a tiny amount of root lifting powder around the areas that need more lift (usually around your parting). Don’t be too heavy-handed, as these powders can go a bit sticky if you use too much. Let the powder sit for a minute and then massage it in, pushing your hair up a little. If your hair is wet, use a root lift spray, gel, or lotion and massage it into your roots. Blow-dry with a round brush, making sure to lift the hair a bit more around your parting and the crown of your head. Then, style as normal!
